Small world eh! Trentham was a nice venue-big enough for atmosphere, but small enough to hear and see the band properly. Not sure if they still have gigs there now? Didn't go to many gigs there (most bands came to the Wheatshelf when they were starting out, then the Sugarmill), but have a few happy memories of that place.
Fatself, the Bill Cosby things is a bit bizarre isn't it. I'd heard he'd done a Northern track called Li'l Old Man, or something like that, but I've never heard it; you'll have to let us know if it's any good.
Anyway, my posting on here could get a bit tedious, since I have a bit of a passion for Northern Soul, but here's just one last video. Some guy trying to impersonate Kevin Rowland/Dexy's ;D
Edit: I don't listen to much radio so not sure if this is still so, but Mark Larmarr used to play quite a bit of Northern on his show too, along with classic Ska.

..... the Bill Cosby things is a bit bizarre isn't it. I'd heard he'd done a Northern track called Li'l Old Man, ..... It sounds exactly like Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" (1965) which is credited to "Stevie Wonder, Sylvia Moy and Henry Cosby". n.b. The 'Cosby' in the credits is not 'Bill' but the record producer 'Henry'. Bill Cosby incorporated it in his rendition as "Little Ole Man (Uptight, Everything's Alright)" (1967). Paul

I actually really enjoyed the Cosby tune... Its nice to have such a widely recognisable voice from a regarded personality attributed to the music your like. And, even though on face value it seems strange, his vochals are perfect for the genre.

Well, one last effort to keep this thread going.........on a (sad) evangelical mission. Sorry I couldn't find an all singing/dancing video, but here's one for the 80s generation who maybe remember Yazz (at least). Yes, Michael the finest music EVER! Where's Dokdrain when you need him? Oh, wtf, watch this one too: One for you JT? Attica! Attica! ;D F*ck! That's an amazing video!

Gil Scott Heron was amazing. Saw him in Sheffield in the early eighties. The last I heard of him was a sad story in the Guardian about 5 years ago; he was on some methadone programme to keep him out of jail..no idea what hapen to him after that...

That's really sad....Did you hear the 'bi-centennial blues' albumn? The man's a poet/artist...Why did he get locked up?....

not really sure of any details but with him it's usually drugs, i expect he'd still be free if he'd been caught with a gun
