I'm hoping to shoot this short before Christmas on a shoe string budget: A 15-minute realist drama set in a city center about a homeless recovering alcoholic Shep who’s bullied daily by a twenty something silver spoon fed alpha male businessman. With help from his charismatic best mate Sweed, a one-man band, Shep learns that in order to gain respect from others he must first respect himself. after seeing Somers town I'm going to let this film form more organically than I'd intended and work to the strengths of the cast. my dream cast would be Peter Mullan playing Shep and Paddy playing the one man band, if you can picture that if anyone fancies a look at the script drop me your email, I'd love to get some more feedback on it,

Go for it pal. Funny Peter Mullan is one I have in mind for my feature script 'Mr Chuckles' him or Gary Lewis or Timothy Spall.
If I didnt have my own christmas project on would have offered to lend a hand. I've read the script and its good so get it made! Get yourself on shootingpeople.org if your not already and post out for some crew to lend a hand in the making. I look forward to seeing it and totally agree with the organic point, thats how my christms project will work.
Do it Do it Do it!!!

in fact after thinking a lot about it I think I've gotta shoot another shot before this one, this ones set in a city center and thats gonna mean a hell of a lot of external problems needing solved, preferably it'd be set in London, think I've gotta shoot a short in Cumbria first where I wont be so out of my depth logistics wise

No, can't really picture that at all. Maybe it's the mocked up publicity still - 'cos that makes it look like a story about how Captain Birdseye fell on hard times after they discovered what really was being dished out to the kids at the Captain's table!!

He was always asking the kids to smell his fish fingers. That and the cod embargos.

That sounds like a very solid premise. Definitely worth making from that alone. Have you thought about trading up London for a city like Glasgow? It's easier to shoot, but you have a financial district as well as all the railway arches, and Peter lives there, so you may get lucky. His agent is cool, so you never know...

took the exact words right out my mouth Tom, the exact words, well the Peter Mullan things a total dream, but I was thinking of Glasgow, I only live an hours drive from the scottish boarder!!! the more I think about it picture Peter in that one man band get up!! the other thing is the one man bands a mentor character so imagine how well that'd translate to screen Peter working with an unknown actor. Anyway getting a bit ahead of myself but I think contacting Peters defiantly worth a try.
I do think rushing to do this film before Christmas is the wrong decision though, I'm totally skint right now so I'm gonna spend the weekend writing and try and come up with something to shoot before chirstmas

by the way anyone a little confused by reading the script, the one man band character is swapped for a one stringed guitarist in this draft, it'd just be easier to shoot and it'll take a HUGE performance to pull off a one man band kit, this drafts basically the one that could be shot on a shoestring

Sounds like a great idea. I like the one-man band thing.... would give it something. But I can see what you mean by the one string guitar. Would be easier. As long as the script/structure is strong i guess it'll work no matter what he plays.
Look forward to this.
