Influence of non-British directors

I'd like to know whether Shane is ever influenced by any contemporary European directors, such as Pedro Almodóvar, Luc Besson, Yves Robert, Gérard Pirès, Icíar Bollaín, etc. They all deal with varying styles and content.
These happen to be some of my personal favourite non-British directors, but it interests me to know whether directors all look at one another's films from time to time and think "Oh I like that, I might just use it in my next film, no-one'll notice".
