Caught the first hour (have to be up at 5.30 though, so that's it for me). It's just weird how there's this OTT warning stuff about the 'racism' bad language and 'extreme violence' after every commercial break-seems it not just the BBFC, but also channel four who think people are going to be shocked to fainting point....like we don't hear or see stuff like this in 'real life.' What's going on?

Saw this film for the 1st time last night, thought it was amazing, really moved me and only a few films have done that. Would have loved to have been part of it

Welcome aboard, waitingminds. I suppose it's for the benefit of more sensitive (or perhaps sheltered?) viewers who just happen to tune in to see what's on -- it's like the network doesn't want anything to catch them off-guard and cause them to complain or whatever. (They can't say they didn't know what they were in for!)

(They can't say they didn't know what they were in for!) I suppose my post doesn't really make sense unless you heard the 'warnings.' It's normal for there to be a 'warning' prior to broadcast when there's content that might offend certain sensibilities, but this was just bizarre......incredibly serious voiceover....you could be forgiven for thinking you were going to see eyes gored out type stuff, but I suppose mainly my concern (if that's the right word) was a suggestive ambiguity maybe, like people might take away the wrong message on the 'racism' front. Don't see that at all myself.....even that bloke who posted the 'Yeah, but Maggie was right really' nonsense (Oldham Boy???) had picked up the anti-racist message in the film. Gareth...kind of cryptic....sure you're not really implying that the Brand and Wossy saga has somehow created a new climate of censorship...the Daily Mail's been around for a long time. Evans, Vine and all the others came out of Broadcasting House and faced the press touting a pre-agreed party line because the Mail, Telegraph and all the other right wing reactionaries have been holding an unloaded gun at the head of the BBC for years and Brand and Ross gave them some bullets. Brand and wossy aren't brilliant satarists or champions of free speech...there a couple of stupid dicks with no political nous..

I host the trailer for This Is England on my YouTube account, and you should see the daily comments from absolutely unfathomable racist morons!
Never underestimate the ignorance and stupidity that exists within the general public.

I turned the BAFTA speech on in the pub and two lads were sitting there going "thats the most racist film I've ever seen"

O.K. I'm not going to make a big deal about this...I get what you're both saying...but f*ck if channel four's patronising morons these days.. (dunno, maybe they've been doing it years??)...we have to prepare viewers for films with a serious message shown way after the watershed with some pre-school 'I'm saying this in a deadly earnest tone because you might be a moron' message??

Oh, okay... In the States, I'm used to pre-show warnings like, 'This show contains ____ (violent content, strong language, mature or disturbing subject matter, etc.), so parental discretion is advised.' But this deal you're talking about sounds like it was downright condescending -- talking down to viewers and seriously underestimating their intelligence, as if they couldn't figure anything out for themselves. That IS pretty messed up.
