Not seen this mentioned anywhere else (though it does no harm to mention it twice if it is!!), but subscribers to Lovefilm.com can watch Small Time online (it's just done through streaming, so be careful of it stopping to buffer every few seconds as it decided to do for the first 15 minutes when I was watching it... ). You can find it here: www.lovefilm.com/film/Small-Time/132735/Just finished watching it myself, really enjoyed it!! I've been wanting to see it for ages, and it didn't disappoint. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a DVD release mind you...

Great find Amy! I've noticed the online film streaming of LoveFilm, but never bothered to browse through the films.
This is top news for the front page!
I've still got the VHS anyway myself! ;D

Fan-bloodytastic! I'll watch that later... I watched "Chopper" on the LoveFilm site the other day and noticed JCVD is now available for free too! JCVD (Jean Claude Van Damme) I actaully bought this without seeing it first, and was rewarded. The film wouldn't work if JCVD wasnt JCVD, and its a good job he is, as the film is excellent. Quite heavy in parts, with the monologues etc but this is leveled with humour and actually decent acting. The music is odd though, kind of heist movie like. I'd recommend it to all. Put it on your lovefilm lists. Hopefully it'll lead to some more decent films...... Watch it! Its brilliant. And for 'free', you cant go wrong.

Excellent news! Just signed up to a 90 day trial and am watching it now. I've only seen it once before, that was about four years ago on a worn-out VHS from Brum Central Library.

I notice the certificate on the page says 18TBC Is it unconfirmed because it is currently under going reclassification for a DVD release!? The VHS I have is an 18. The only reason I could ever work out for it being an 18 is that the C word is used in it once... maybe twice. Maybe that used to get you can 18.... .... however, having recently screened looking for Eric at work, which is a 15, I noticed at least 3 uses of the C word in that, and I didn't even watch the whole film!

Brilliant! Loved it, great seeing you on screen Shane, takes a real man to write that his character has a small ding dong. lol.
Didn't realise it was shot partly in Skeg, I used to buy Donut Delights (Warm donut with Ice cream) from that stall all the time. Wonder how business is now MacDonald's opened right behind it...
Was wondering Shane, how do you as the film maker feel about your films being essentially given away for free? Who makes the decision to make it available on LoveFilm and does it impede on any pending DVD release?

Lovefilm would of cut some sort of deal for the film to be showing on the site for free. Showing it on the site will help get them more members and more in the Lovefilm title bank to offer customers. I'm sure Shane had a deal with them at some level for the rights. Brilliant! Loved it, great seeing you on screen Shane, takes a real man to write that his character has a small ding dong. lol. Was wondering Shane, how do you as the film maker feel about your films being essentially given away for free? Who makes the decision to make it available on LoveFilm and does it impede on any pending DVD release? The BFI stitched me up a bit to be honest. I didn't know what a contract was when I made smalltime. It was just a group of mates having a laugh. The BFI offered me money to get it completed, so we could get it printed to film and take it to festivals etc, They said once the costs were paid back, that any money it made would come back to the cast and crew. Little did I know that this meant they could do whatever the fuck they liked with it pretty much for ever and never ever send any of the profits back to Nottingham. After I made King of the Gypsies, I used my £2500 earnings to make Smalltime, It was my first ever Paycheck! That has never been paid back never mind profits. Add into the mix that members of the cast now hate me as they think I shafted them and you are left with a pretty bitter taste in your chops. I have tried in vain for many years to get some money from their sales for the people that worked on it (not massive sales but sales all the same) and got nowhere. Somehow they have managed to write it all off against there own expenditure and continue to do so to this day. I am gutted that it is being given away for free as the fucking BFI sold WarpFilms the DVD rights meaning it would finally get a DVD release and then they pretty much wreck any chance of that happening by doing this. I literally have no say/rights in Smalltime whatsoever and don't think I ever will as the contract pretty much give them the right to do whatever they like with it. You live and learn aye. I look back now and think what a mug I was for trusting them, but I had never even seen a contract that big, never mind make sense of it, or better still have two pennies to rub together to pay for a solicitor to look at it and tell me what a lump of shit it was. I feel awful for WarpFilms as I was the one who pushed them to buy the DVD rights. There were a few people sniffing around for the rights who were gonna just slap it out with the same cover and no extras and I talked Mark into investing in it saying maybe we could do something special with it. Get the cast to do a Commentary, Show loads of deleted scenes etc. But not long after the deal was complete, The BFI stuck it online for Download for 79p and now this.

Ah, I knew someone would be getting screwed, how come it's always the ones that do all the hard work? I feel bad now! Although I would certainly buy any DVD that came out, for films like Small Time the story behind it and how it was and got made is half the appeal, like with movies such as El Mariachi and Clerks. A commentary would be awsome!

Aaw, I feel a bit bad for putting this up now!! I'm with Gary C though, I would still happily buy a DVD, especially with a commentary and extra features. It's all very well watching it for free, but I'd much rather have a copy I could watch without having to have my computer on, and minus the annoying 'buffering' that doubles the length Hope you manage to work out something with the DVD (and the payments), I'm pretty sure the DVD could still have a strong audience.

Again Shane's words Eco in my ears it makes me sick that the very people that make the film are always the ones to not only not to get paid or gain anything from the film. Just getting that very ill feeling thing now from some of my cast i have put my own money into Stagger and around two years planning all this just for some company to come along and fuck me .As yet i have signed nothing i need eyes in the back of my head. I'm so pleased that Shane posted this reply i read this with much interest thanks for being so honest with your feeling and what you have learned and sharing that with us Shane. I feel that all Shane Meadows fans should now boycott the free viewing on Lovefilm i am a member and will be emailing Lovefilm today to remove smalltime as a free movie .I want this title on DVD were it deserves to be not only is it Shane's first movie it's the bench mark from where it all started.

No worries about you guys watching it. It's just the fact that they sold the rights to the DVD and then basically gave it to someone else for free! It will still probably come out on DVD, but it just knackers up the plans a bit as you have to get these things out when the time is right and I'm pretty sure just after it's been given away for free isn't that time.
First there was the 79p download fiasco that put the stoppers on it and now the freebie to the world has delayed it even further. Anyhow, it will give us time to try and get even more extras etc.

That's sickening, I'd have thought that the BFI would be much more supportive than that.
