I used to live in Sneinton and love Small Time. Got to ask though, how could you leave out The Lamp?

I am from Sunderland but I used to live in Sneinton for a few years. The Lamp is a pub at the start of Sneinton Dale and is possibly the smelliest pub in Britain.

I left out the Peggers and the Bendigo for similar reasons - Personal safety! I nearly got mauled by a twenty stone brickie one night in the Bendigo for wearing a shirt with a pattern, can you imagine what they would have done to me if I'd turned up with some actors and a video camera!

Shane why do you/have you shot films in Nottingham,Sneinton,Matlock when you grew up in Uttoxeter and live in Burton? Just curious to find out if were are ever going to see stuff from round you way. I know Shanes world and Northern Soul was from around and about but no full lenght yet.

Imagine if you lot had turned up, would have been hilarious, but also potentially violent.
Peggers and the Bendigo have shut down now ... But the Lamp and The Fox are still going.
Shane, maybe one day you'll get one of those blue plaques dedicated to you around Sneinton. The campaign starts here!

I Have promised copies of the DVD to loads of mates who used to live there and haven't seen the film HMV in Leeds had about 20 copies on VHS in a post christmas sale for less than a fiver each a few years back - wish i'd bought the job lot. Shane, did you used to live on the corner of Jubilee St?

The Lamp has had a swanky new makeover and could now be taken for a respectable boozer, and you can still get a pint of Oakdales for £1.87.

Morell.. quick bit of info on why no Uttoxeter or Burton based films. Firstly, those towns are in Staffordshire, and the county is administered by Screen West Midlands, not East Mids Media (regional funding agencies). EM-Media have histotrically been keen to get involved in Shane's films, but the proviso is that if they fund you, you have to predominantly shoot the film in their region (Notts/Derbys/Leics/Lincs/Northants/Rutland) with the occasional exception. Secondly, making a film over several weeks takes incredible amounts of energy and concentration, and I think it helps to be "on the road" and away from home while this is happening. It keeps the creativity going, which is an essential element of Shane's improvisational technique (where tomorrow's scenes can be heavily influenced by what happened today). Going home to domestic stuff each evening isn't quite so conducive to maintaining the level of intensity required. Mind you, having said all that, never say never! I think that the East Staffs area does have cinematic potential (and I have the photos to prove it!), hopefully in the future something will get filmed in the area, even if it isn't one of Shane's.

I lived in Sneinton for severa years around the time of Where's the money and Smalltime.
Was a great place....Bendigo's at bottom of my street - Hollows - was a once in a lifetime experience though.......note to self.....NEVER go into a dodgy put with 2 lads dressed as Morrissey wannabe students

I saw the best worst Elvis impersonator at the Bendigo. The actual 'Sneinton Elvis' had the flu and coudln't make it, so he lent a much Smaller man with no eyelids his White vegas suit and a microphone and the rest will remain tattooed on my soul for ever.
Twas quite a night, Lesbian Fighting, A man with bleeding forearms trying to get me outside for a fight all night and the scariest looking dude I've ever seen got refused a pint and proceeded to punch every single beer tap into outer space then threw the fake, fake Elvis off stage and wept his eyes out as he sang American Triliogy until the police arrived.
Note to Self - Never go into a pub that has a statue of a bare knuckle fighter on the roof unless you are with a Cage Fighter.

sneinton hermatage as always been the worst, borrows court used to be my abode for a while then i got released to bakersfield lol! but the dale its self has never been a problem at all, the jester and that other pub up the street, not the fox, the other way on the corner nearthe co-op, that place was always a bit crazy. The nelson was actually a good pint, nice little pub with the chinese just round the corner, akbars mini-mart. I never really hadany problems round the place to be honest borrow was a bit dodgy, always wondered if my shit would be there when i got home everytime i left the house. the madhouse at the side of carlton road, another welfare style low life drinking hole, but the lamp! lol come on, the lamp.....moved to houston TX now for the past 9 years...must go home and visit i think.
