Sorry if this has already been asked/answered.
In the final scene when Richard mocks Anthony's voice and says he was an embarrasment - is this a genuine feeling or just intended to confuse/cut-off the final gang member?
It shocks me everytime I see it.

I'd say genuine. A lot of what's going on with Richard is about guilt. Welcome btw.

Yes .. definitely agree with Jill here. That scene is particularly painful to listen to/watch ..

I think it has been discussed in a previous thread,
yeah totally genuine, I love that bit of the final scene it rings through as so so true, no matter how much Richard loved Anthony he must have seen him as a burden from time to time growing up and maybe Anthony was partly the reason for Richard joining the army? who knows how Richard behaved towards Anthony in his more immature years and there's maybe a lot of guilt of that nature there.
amazing how that impersonation of Anthony says so so much and gives so much back story although its obviously sort of with a pinch of salt if you know what I mean, he doesnt mean what he's saying right there and then but he's felt that way at one time or another, most probably not the first time he's done that impersonation either.
probably didnt explain what I meant to there but thats the thing about this film, you understand it on a much deeper level than any amount of paragraphs can express, I was supposed to be writing a script right now but I'm gonna have to sit and watch DMS its been far too long!

it encapsulated he guilt richard was feeling, and in his own death he was passing the burden on.......as well as fingering the bloke for the carnage richard had caused over the week
my opinion of course...may be wrong

Yeah, I am sure it was genuine. He had such mixed emotions towards his brother and his own guilt for that mixes into his need for revenge. Every time I hear that I just feel so shocked and sad though.

Found this on You Tube. Alternative ending to DMS..... if I remember right that was shot during the shooting period and then they came back and re did it because they hadn't nailed it and thank god they did! would have changed the whole film!

christ the bit where richard and anthony are walking back and the music kicks in is very haunting an unsettling, doesnt allow everything to rest in peace

.....thanks for the you tube alternative ending link .... for me it makes interesting viewing but compares poorly to the final cut .... yet again Mr Meadows shows his genius by choosing the perfect path.... I feel it shows that he values his audience by letting them see what else was shot...

I've always found it interesting to watch the alternate ending (and it does change things) but I love the one we got. I need to rewatch it soon, but it always makes me cry.
