I have by some miracle conned my supervisor into allowing me to do my sociology dissertation on representations of working class masculinity in british cinema and I want to do a comparison between films from the 90s and films from the 50s and 60s. Anyone got any ideas of films I could look at from the earlier period? Any ideas are much appreciated!

You need to contact the film guru forum member, companero. He'll know.

The definitive film from this era is 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning'. Check it out on IMDB.

What about Michael Caine or Adam Faith films. Were they in the 50s or 60s. I know there was a film called Budgie that I think Adam Faith was in. I'm presuming that was a working class tale.

I'd have a look at Ken Loach's Cathy Come Home as well.
