Dear Shane,
I am a Drama and Film Studies student in my final year at the University Of Kent. Until September 2007, which is when I started my degree, I had lived in the same village in Nottingham for all of my lifr and am incredibly fond of where I come from. My family are all fans of your films, therefore I have been watching them for years and have become the biggest fan in my family!
I have therefore decided to write my dissertation for the Film Studies part of my degree on your films A Room For Romeo Brass, Dead Man's Shoes and This Is England.
The title is:
A Study into Shane Meadows and his 'state of the nation films, with reference to Nick Love
I have chosen to concentrate heavily on the theme of masculinity and male violence and the connection it has with place and space, therefore I will also write about Nick Love's The Football Factory and Goodbye Charlie Bright. I would like to ask you if it would be possible to ask you a few questions as part of the research part of my dissertation. This would probably be easier if it took the form of an email, although I am more than willing to meet you in person! I appreciate how busy you are and fully understand if you don't have the time, it would certainly be an honour to be able to interview you in some way.
