Got this film out for the first time to rent and was totally overwhelmed by the ending. I didn't expect an ending like that. I was expecting Hoskin's boys to win and all the boys would be reformed people. Instead we got an insane moment by Hoskins but everyone a changed character.
A superb film I have to say.

Salvador's reply has bumped this message, and reading it, I see it is pretty much a big spoiler!
Anyway, yes Salvador... it is that good. Get it bought! haha.

Watched it at the weekend (gawd bless ya Mr HMV sale ) and I'm with Simon on that one. The shot of Darcy walking down the dissused track towards the end really got me, and Bruce Jones' performance shows that he's just coasting on Corrie. Wicked film, and it sticks out against the shitstream of arse-end nineties mockney farces like a sixpence in a Christmas pudding. Still got the director's commentary to look forward to and all

Are we talking the soft fizz of a tongueload of Skips, or a full-on McCoys assault course here? I don't want the neighbours banging on the wall

I find this to be possibly the best shot of all shanes film, hard to say against DMS but i am a sucker for black and white. Great acting, directing everything.

I finally got to see 'Twentyfour Seven' earlier this month; I haven't been able to find in DVD in the US, but I was able to track down a good secondhand VHS copy (thank you, Amazon.com Marketplace!). It's not quite the emotional powerhouse that 'Dead Man's Shoes' was, but for being Shane Meadows' feature debut, it wasn't bad at all. He showed a lot of promise as a storyteller; Bob Hoskins gave a great, subtle performance; and the rest of the cast (with whom I was unfamiliar) was fine. Oh, and I agree about the black-and-white cinematography -- beautifully shot! Nicely done, overall.
