Having complained to BBC about non-show last week, I eagerly tuned in tonight. I was completely disappointed and disillusioned. I am the Councillor for St Pancras and Somers Town Ward. I saw nothing in this shallow and empty film to reflect the virbant multi-cultural local community. It is a disgrace to steal the name of an area for such a sorry apology for a movie. I hope Shane Meadows stays away from my area in the future, and confines his parasitic activity elsewhere Cllr Peter Brayshaw Shouldn't you be working to make Somers Town a better place rather than spending your time spitting your dummy out on the internet. Just for the record, I loved Somers Town and the people within it. If what your getting at is that I painted a bleak picture then you have no idea how restrained i actually was.

Maybe you should have employed Mandelson and Campbell as script consultants Shane. Keep talking a good game about our 'vibrant, diverse communities' and maybe people will stop noticing 12 year old runaways eating out of dumpsters at the back of Kings Cross. Bah.
Welcome to the site fanofmarek. You'll love working your way through the back catelogue, I'm sure.

I wonder if the Councillor for Notting Hill kicked off when they saw the film of the same name? If I remember rightly, it was even less a representation of a diverse multi-cultural area than Somers Town. But hold on a minute - I don't think Notting Hill was sold as a documentary... And neither was Somers Town. This guy is deluded, out of touch, and sure as hell has very little understanding of the area if this is his argument. I'm London born and bred, and I know this part of town pretty well. The reflection that the film gives is very positive, in spite of the reality - for as long as I can remember, the place has been surrounded by bloody cranes and dust from all the building sites - who's fault is that, Councillor?

Shane did the Council in Nottingham complain about your portrayal of said city for Romeo Brass? I wasn't happy about your portrayal of kids eating chips, people talking and I also spotted a rather mangy pigeon in the background of one shot.
Not good enough mate and I for one hope all the future directors making million pound features in that area take heed
Good day to you

Since when did films with a place name in the title have to amount to being an all-encompassing documentary of said area?
*sigh*

I was out of the country when Somers Town came out and only got to see it on TV the other night. Such a beautiful, warm film. It comes from such a good place. I am perplexed at how anyone could so totally misread it. Sad, sad, sad.

Sorry. Old thread I know. Just wanted to say me and my family are here today. I brought one of my kids here last year and brought the other and the missus here this year - staying nearby again. I enjoy parts of London like this. Full of character, often a little grim, sometimes a bit edgy as mentioned but always an experience. We come to a café here to eat. Just normal good grub not a slither of rocket on some pumpkin seed bread or drowned in 'earthy' dressing costing the Earth. Anyway, I love the movie and I love it here. The movie inspired me to visit. We come to eat and the rest of the family put up with me taking photos.
