Nice mature name for this thread. Watched Twentyfourseven again with my dad a few nights ago, He liked it.
But anyway getting to the point, on this watch i noticed how much pooing and weeing there is in the film, or references to rather. For example, gadget needing a shit at the start, Darcy finishing up when Ronnie arrives at the club, and then the bit in wales where they're all pissing on trees. I just thought this was pretty cool, as in most films and TV you never see any reference to this sort of stuff do you? I just like how shane isn't afraid to address it. Makes the film all the more real i think.

I don't know what's funnier-the main title of this thread, the subject for discussion, or the 'spoilers' There's quite a bit of toilet action in DMS too!

Ha ha, I've been trying to think of ways to continue the conversation, but I'm lost...except to say, yes, it's all part of the naturalism and realism of Shane's films. SPOILER ... even get a death on the bog in DMS....(adds to the seediness of those guys?) Sure there are others on site with a repository of toilet jokes tho' ;0

Seems you and me are the only ones who have an interest in this theme of shane's films! ha ha. Yeah i was awaiting the toilet jokes to start coming in.
Thing is though in Shane's films its not outrightly funny, its not specifically there to be funny, i mean it is for sure. But i think its just there for naturalism like you say. You never see that sort of stuff in other people's work, toilets and stuff is just there for a big gag and thats it.
Any toilet references in ARFRB? or OUATIM?

Ok, never thought that i would be presented with a chance to share this but i'm writing about meadows uses if humour quite a lot at the moment and i'm using a cultural theorist called Bakhtin to make a point about exactly this topic... this is a crude rendition of bakhtin's views on laughter: The grotesque presents a “Double faced fullness of life,” discussing an “essential phase” of life, inseparable from “affirmation, and the birth of something new.”....Laughter at ‘the grotesque,’ like eating and drinking, is the pursuit of “Brimming over abundance,” there is no purity captured within a form of laughter that is employed to express moral ideas, that type of laughter is necessarily diluted by its intentions. Therefore grotesque laughter is an announcement that we are mortal.
.... hey, i didn't start this thread

I love the really crappy - but strangely cool - cars Shane finds for his movies. The 2CV in DMS, the van in 24/7, Dek's car in Once Upon A Time...
