It's remains my favourite. No reflection on the later films, just have a real soft spot for it. And I agree, it is 'arty'-some lovely stuff in there.

I think it's sadly somewhat neglected in Shane's canon of work these days, maybe it's the black and white that turns many off but it doesn't get the love that Dead Man Shoes, This is England or A Room For Romeo Brass gets. Remember at the time Romeo was released it was seen as a step back for Shane after Twentyfour/Seven but now its seen as the better film by many (Romeo is the better film so I agree on that) . I think also it doesn't have a break out performance like Shane's following other films had. Bob Hoskin's gives one of his last great performances in this though. A beautifully written script too and the scene where Van Morrison's Wild Night is playing when Bob Hoskin's is dressing and flashbacks to him as a kid is a thing of beauty. It does have a downbeat ending a bit like DMS and TIE but I think 24/7 wins over any of Shane's other films I think its the best shot film without a doubt.

I have a real soft spot for this film. Not sure about which is better-not sure how to compare the two.I think the decision to film in black and white had a lot to do with it not being a commercial success, but I think it adds to the poetry of the film. Love it.
On 24: 7, here's a little curiosity I found by chance. How odd this completely passed the forum by. The theatre company should have posted about it.
