No, it is much different! ;D VHS never had any extras, so they weren't suddenly being taken away when DVD turned up. In fact, towards the end of the VHS lifespan, they tried chucking some of the DVD extras on the tapes (after the film) for a few VHS releases. yeah I remember my Matrix VHS had a making of at the end Scream was released on VHS with two cassettes, one of which was the film with a commentary track.

I too hope that This Is England '86 is released on Blu-ray soon. It's a shame the UK market only gets Dexter on DVD (it is available on Blu-ray in the US).

It boils down to sales at the end of the day, andin most cases it is that simple. I wouldn't imagine a lot of US TV shows would have the potential to seel big numbers on Blu-ray.

Thanks to my own wise decision to buy TIE86 DVD from the Meadows shop on this site, my copy turned up today! Nice!
Pity I am now at work, so can't look at it.

Has anybody watched the entire thing in one go yet?
I watched it today and although I sort of expected it, I was surprised by the difference it made. I didn't have the same grumbles about the first two episodes as some people on the forum, but I did find them a bit frantic and 'bitty' on the first watch. Not so this time-the pace seemed slower and the whole thing flowed better. Damn those ad breaks!
I also didn't think the shift in directorial styles was quite as pronounced as some people, but I did notice some differences. This time around though, I was quite surprised by how well the episodes flowed-there was some difference, for sure, but not marked disjunctures imo.
The other thing that was a bit odd, was that Woody didn't seem to be too radically different from his persona in the film. When I first watched the episodes, I found him a bit slap stick and OTT. This time around, I had a bit more sympathy for him-still a 'sinner' (ha, ha), but a bit more sympathetic because his ignorance of what is actually going on with Lol came across better in this retrospective viewing maybe.
Obviously, the whole thing had much less dramatic impact because I knew what was coming, but the upside of this was I tended to focus more on the other characters this time around and noticed the others performances more. Hadn't noticed before just how bonkers Trudy is ;D
Still think the wheelchair race would have worked better without the music, but that's the only bit that really jarred with me.
Still not sure about that ending though. I just have a real problem getting my head around Combo appearing at the eleventh hour and 'saving the day.' Seems that's just me though, since the majority of viewers seem to have loved Combo's redemption.
Neither of my kids were able to watch it on TV (work commitments) and didn't want to watch it on the PC, so they'll be watching the whole thing in one continuous stream, totally fresh. They're both massive Meadows fans, be interesting to hear what that make of it.
Any thoughts?

Same here about the flow of eps. I felt that the first episode bookends nicely with the fourth in many ways.
I noticed that Woody does actually ask Lol about her dad at the end of the second episode. I hadn't quite picked up all that he said before. He said that he was glad she was back so that they could have a chat about her dad. But then she said that she was all talked out (I think this was the first time she told Milky too) and he assumed she meant Smell. That did change my perception a little.
I also spotted more of Ian Brown and noticed that Shaun dresses like a prat at the house party too. ;D

I've watched the outakes, the deleted scenes and watched ep three with the commentary! I shall set aside some time on Sunday to do a TIE'86 marathon. Mmmm ad free. Good times. A review. www.futuremovies.co.uk/review.asp?ID=1191
