First off, I need to make it clear that I think each and every one of the cast give brilliant and incredibly naturalistic performances in both the film and this follow up, but of them all (and so far) Andrew Shim (Milky) has really impressed. There's something very special and accomplished about the way he delivers his lines.

I'll tell thee what....
Michael Socha who plays Harvey is absolutely outstanding I reckon. He didn't have much to say in the second episode, but in those little bits, he feels totally real... like there's real depth to his character. ...looks like he has some hard story coming up.

Agreed, Dave. Socha was very good with what little bit he had to play with.

Socha is one of the better actors but it seems his lines are limited to saying "me duck" every episode.
I totally disagree in that I dont think Shim has impressed. I would say Mcclure acts the arse of the rest of the cast

Vicky McClure is the best by a mile - she is going to be huge - Thomas Thurgoose is as excellent as ever and Perry Benson is doing what he's been doing since the days of You Rang My Lord and Oh Doctor Beeching; stealing every scene he's in ...I wonder if he's still in touch with Su Pollard?

Perry Benson ...I wonder if he's still in touch with Su Pollard? Don't they use the same Optician?

Have you seen him in Sean Lock's 15 Stories High where he plays a bloke who keeps a pony in a towerblock - he's hilarious.

No, I've not seen him in that at all, mate. I only recall seeing him in the Anciano/Burdis stuff prior to THIS IS ENGLAND.

Possibly my favourite sitcom ever. There was a huge thread about it in the ANYTHING ELSE section a while ago. Perry also plays one half of the two table-tennis playing brothers in series 2. "Mum! Where's that Ribena?!"

Yes, mate - and the two features A&B did, FINAL CUT and LOVE, HONOR AND OBEY. I know there are many that hate the films (the critics at the time dismissed both as self-indulgent vanity projects) and each of them don't quite work as a whole, but the improvisation is quite interesting and there's some really funny banter between the characters. Benson, I thought, was really amusing in LH&O.

That was alright Operation Good Guys, had it's moments, sometimes a tad self-serving, ahead of it's time though and pre-dated the likes of The Office by a few years. Perry Benson's still that kid from Scum for me though!!

There's something very special and accomplished about the way he delivers his lines. I agree, I love his work. But tbh I thought the whole cast have been superb; it's been the directing I've had a problem with as in the first two episodes it's been glaringly obvious Shane didn't direct them and they were sub par as a result. But the entire cast were great, and I could watch Rosamund Hanson all day, she's got something undefinable about her. Agreed about Vicky McClure as well, real depth there and I think she could be huge as well. I wish George Newton had been used more, he's an astonishing actor with huge potential who so far hasn't been used enough. Whilst we're at it, can someone update the IMDB page for TIE 86 to include the full crew please?
