I haven't spotted many so far, but this one is a biggy. When Kelly comes down for breakfast she's wearing a t-shirt with the Cure's Bloodflowers on it - an album that wasn't released until 2000

Have you not been reading the other threads lately?
I'm not sure this is the best thread to start at the moment. ;D

Have you not been reading the other threads lately? I'm not sure this is the best thread to start at the moment. ;D Well I've only been posting since the series began, Dave. I'd noticed a few timeline gaff posts, but thought a thread might be interesting. Sorry if I've done something wrong. Feel free to delete it.

Where are the Pot Noodles? They better be Golden Wonder Pot Noodles if they do make an appearance... not this rubbish Pot Noodle Company that it is these days!
Sweet and Sour Pot Noodles used to taste much nicer back then.
I'm also pretty sure I remember the ingredients mentioning "Various dried meats"... so they were not happy fodder for vegetarians back then.

I'm sensing sarcasm. Am I to take it most of you here don't particularly care about the authenticity of the dating? In that case why not have a scene where Shaun is playing Modern Warfare 2 on a PS3?

I dont think its such a bad thread to have slip ups/ continuty goofs noticed, IMDB has a page for them on all the films listed. I for one like noticing little things like this, like the subtle little nods and references to your other films in your work, which someone posted a thread on but no one replied to, think it was called nice tag. Users being sarcastic on a thread because they think Shane's work is being slagged off detracts from the level of inteligent people you really are, bringing the forum down and makes for bad discusion.
Its not slagging it off Shane, you should be proud people are watching your work so closely to notice them its fun. Like you said it was cut alot faster for tv than your films given the time frame. If it bothers you so much why dont you tweak them for the DVD release?
Maybe the the timing of this thread is bad? Yes very bad! HAHA

Yeah, you're right, if people want to talk about era errors, then that's fine. We're all just currently trying to look cool in front of Shane. I know people find it fun to notice stuff like this, and for most of those people it isn't something that is detracting from their enjoyment, it's just another bonus level of fun (like the Where's Wally books). Some people get all shirty though just because they saw a something out of place. That's when it's really annoying I would imagine.

I can understand things like the Bloodflowers T-Shirt (although it doesn't bother me because I am aware this isn't real ) It's things like double-glazed windows that I think is too much nitpicking though. They were using real buildings as locations, so what were they supposed to do - insist that residents have their windows ripped out and replaced?

Or getting off with the granddaughter of peaches geldoff? What is it they say? Never meet your heroes? Thanks for cementing that theory, Shane. Your films have affected me in ways no other films have ever done (apart from Ken Loach's stuff), but your defensive and sarcastic reaction to what was meant as a fun thread has really disappointed me.

They were using real buildings as locations, so what were they supposed to do - insist that residents have their windows ripped out and replaced? That's exactly what did happen on one of the key locations ;D And satellite dishes were taken down and reinstated at great expense all over the place. Not every single one of them, just the ones that were particularly full-frame. Have you ever tried to knock on the door of a daytime satellite tv addict and say "excuse me mate, mind if we take your dish down for the afternoon?" Or try clearing an entire street full of modern cars with nothing more than a few cases of stella and some kind words. It's not easy. But those efforts aren't seen or are taken for granted such that there isn't a thread titled "England '86 timeline amazingness." This is personally why I find it hard to take a gaffs thread seriously. After eight weeks of prep and a whole heap of planning a few things still slip through the net, which are siezed upon and seen as evidence of not caring about the authenticity. But the simple fact is that at some point out on the road you've got to point the camera and start shooting the story (which is the important bit don't you think?). It's easier if you're in some big country house doing the 7th Jane Eyre of the year, but deep in the heart of a thriving busy residential estate, you do what you can. If you waited until every single thing was absolutely perfectly 1986, you'd never shoot anything. And if you're still watching for erroneous satellite dishes or frickin' care bears by the middle of ep 4.. jesus.. there's a chance you may be missing some of the other interesting things happening in the actual story.
