Good afternoon all,
I'm new to the forum but not new to Shane's work. Each piece of work that Shane has created has consisted of some amazing true-to-life characters, but who is/are your favourite(s)?
As there are so many, I will allow 3 choices, 1st choice being your favourite. I'll run this until the end of the year, so 31st Dec is the deadline. After this date, I'll collaborate all the findings/info together and post results on the forum/website.
3 bits of info required from you, please reply as follows: -
1st choice: who? - from which film/short/TV? - brief reason why? 2nd choice: who? - from which film/short/TV? - brief reason why? 3rd choice: who? - from which film/short/TV? - brief reason why?
peace and tranquility to all,

Combo from This is England.............One word...."Chilling"
Richard from Dead Man's Shoes............Revenge is sweet.

This is one of those impossible to decide threads-there are so many great characters and will probably change my mind, but here goes...
Darcy in 27-7. Bob Hoskin's is great. Darcy's so humane and full of poetry. Loved him. Carol in OUTIM. Again, a lot to do with my love of the actor, Kathy Burke, who is amazing. Loved the 'great matriarch' character too.
Not sure about the third. Will leave it open for now.

So many great characters to choose from but stand outs are Morrel, Richard, darcy, combo, romeo, infact i could go on and on. Even minor characters in Shane's work are just as interesting.

1st choice: Jumbo - Small Time - Funny. Stupid. Coarse. Hapless. 2nd choice: Morell - ARFRB - That accent and, "I can't destroy you today lads. I'm on very serious business." Also the Weetabix poem. 3rd choice: Knighty's Dad - 24/7 - His hangdog face, his beautiful Notts accent and his exasperation over the loss of his Magpie mug!

1) Richard (DMS) -- the only character I can think of (not just in Shane's work, but in ANY film) who scare the hell out of me and break my heart at the same time 2) Morrell (ARFRB) -- an utterly unique man-child character, and infinitely quotable ("It's all banquet down there for ya! She's a baby chicken, and you're a fox!") 3) Woody (TIE) -- friendly, funny, charming, and also very quotable ("Haaarvey? What kind a girl's name is Haaarvey? 'Hello, I'm Harvey, and I've come to give you gip!'")

TOUGH. Paddy Considine single-handedly could contest this for me. He is unquestionably a huge inspiration to myself and my profession.
1) Richard - (DMS) - words arn't really neccasary. Just feelings.
2) Woody - (TIE) - There is barely a difference between Woody the character and Joe Gilgun the Actor. I have nothing but many fond memories of such a hilarious and loveable guy.
3) Le Donk. - (LD&S & Le Donk the original short) - 'Don't tell mommy I rode the Babysitter' still pulled out at parties. Off-the-cuff humour, original, for a character with a huge mass-appeal.
*Special mentions to Anthony (DMS), Morell (ARFRB), and Kezz? (Can I do that?)
