Something which always fascinates me about people with mental deficits are that fact that they are multi-faceted. What they lack in one area, they more than make up for in another. In Morrells case he lacks social skills (to our delight I might add) but more that makes up for it with his "nasty" side.
See how articulate he becomes when he makes the threats of violence etc. Amazing and frighteningly real.
This is often the case in real life. And these "nutters" are everywhere.

Yes, he's a nutter, but did you feel any sympathy for him? Don't you feel sorry for him, especially at the beginning? I think it is the symaphy that we feel for him that makes his violence and nuttiness all the more scary. I felt like I had been sucked in to some extent.

What they lack in one area, they more than make up for in another. A weird generalisation there. This is clearly not always the case, but I guess people find it easier to think that people with a psychological disorder have a 'special skill' that makes up for it! Like presuming blind people attain some kind of special hearing to make up for it. Clearly nonsense. Autistic people often have higher than average intelligence, or have certain obsessive hobbies that often involve memory. The character of Morrell though seems to be more disturbed by his upbringing, than actually having anything clinically wrong with him. I feel alot of sympathy for the character, especially when he's talking about his Dad having smacked his head off of every wall in the house.

Hi Mandy Its strange I know what u mean, when watching the film to begin with I felt real sorry for Morrell and then when he turned nasty on Knocks I thought he was really evil, but then later in the film I felt sorry for him again when he was explaining to Romeo that he had his head bashed on everywall of his house and how he never gave up trying for his dad. But again later in the film when he beat the guy up that was chatting up Ladene and then hit Knocks dad I felt he was evil again but right at the very end as Joe Brass is beating him up he screams out "No Dad" and again I felt a little sorry even after all the nasty things he did. It was really well written charecter because you kept changing your opinion of him throughout the film.

agree with both of you. so much dread permeates throughthat film, i think because you want him to turn out good but slowly realise that there' no chance of that happening
