Long overdue! A decent, open-source NLE, that is FREE? Finally. If this really is that good, then it's going to bump up the quality of so many no-budget film projects ten-fold. Superb.

There's a list of films that were edited using Lightworks on that website too: www.editshare.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=160&Itemid=205Very interesting! Here's a couple of videos too. They kind of drift off into other areas, but both start off talking about Lightworks 2010. So, it seems like the company is banking on making money from selling more features and plug-ins? This does make you wonder how 'bare-bones' the free Lightworks will be. EDIT: Actually, the bloke is saying 'Control Surfaces' which I think means different input peripherals. I saw a video about their own editing interface which looked like a big jog-wheel surrounded by many buttons. So, it looks like the software is the full featured version it has always been. Demo video... it does drift off into the realms of 3D and work sharing between two editors, but you get to see the interface.. which looks good.

can't wait to try it out, looks like you can use a FCP keyboard configuration on it too so switching back and forth shouldn't be too hard.
I'm really exited by the oldschool controller, wonder if its still possible to get hold of one, I'm always messing around on my decks and editing in a similar way to operating the decks would be superb especially when editing to music!

Yep. To have that old-school hands on feel is going to bring something special back to the edit.

Just got an update email from EditShare who own Lightworks. It says the release date for the free download is the 29th of November, but it is only being sent to those who have registered on their site (like me! ;D ). Other info mentioned is that it is only for Windows at the moment. They recommend Windows XP or Windows 7. Hmmmm.. annoying! My old desktop is utterly old and shite with XP on it, but my pretty powerful laptop is Windows Vista. It better work on that! Versions for Mac and Linux systems is on the way, but apparently not expected until late 2011. The update also includes a lovely little case-study of a pro Lightworks user. This time it's an editor called Chris Gill who most recently edited Neil Marshall's Centurion, but he's also well known for being the editor of 28 Days Later. www.editshare.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=184&Itemid=173
