I'm just wondering if Shane has considered making a feature film on a digital format? Shane I know you came along as sort of the last wave of guerilla filmmaking that still used film, just before the "digital revolution". So I guess you have a fondness and familiarity with film?
I ask because I'm planning on making a feature next year on mini-DV with either the XL2 or the Panasonic DVX. And as someone involved in the industry, what do you think honestly about digital distribution? I know Spider-Man 2 was projected digitally in at least some Odeon cinemas, but on the whole is it viable? Anyone who has any input/insight into this will be a big help.

Hiya Mate, I am a huge advocate of digital and continue to use it for all of my shorts. Smalltime was shot on DIGI beta and then transferred to 35mm. That was released in cinemas for a short while. Back then, it was a hugley expensive number to do the transfers and it wasn't much cop either. But things have moved on Dramatically in all areas and people are shooting features on DVX's etc and getting them out to big audiences.
As I have always said, the idea and the actors are what counts, Shit script on 35mm versus masterpiece on mini DV - there is no competition. It's all about what you lay down rather than what you lay it down on.
Good luck with the project.

Shady.

Cheers Shane, you're a massive inspiration to a lot of young filmmakers that have discovered you and your work. I appreciate you replying here, and thanks for the best wishes! Hopefully quality will prevail.
And hopefully, my film will be quality.
