Hi there new guy here, im in love with this film, imo not just the best uk film ever, but one of the best films ever. Been a lurker to long, love the board, and shane is great, so many great film, but for me this is still his best one
Just wanted to start a new thread to ask something haha, probably wrong but here goes
We all know the gang was a bunch of cowards and bullys, BUT imo i now think the only really tough nut's in the gang was gypo john and sonny himself. I believe richard took out john to undermine the whole confidence in sonny and the gang itself
To see the bloody reamins of not only there mate, but the toughest guy in there group, would for sure make the rest think there golden days were over. Sonny for me never gets over the death of john, he is still in a mess the next day and that helps account for his poor shot which kills al (though of course he is pushed or slips just as sonny fires), imo had he been not still greiving on johns death, he would have easily shot richard
As a trained soldier (was he not wearing a para uniform at the funeral ?), it makes sense for richard to scout first, determine there dangers then eliminate them to make it easier to lower morale and give himself an easier mission to wipe them out with out getting killed or injured himself
And while i do think sonny was a very violent man, he had to make sure he had the right back up if needed, he was not stupid, he needed the gang to give of that aura of being hard. Id say he and the gang were so used to having it there own way, they had grown soft, and were in shock when they had to take on a guy like richard, they quite simply could not handle him or the very idea of him
Any way just a though i had in my head, never really saw any pattern before, just thought he waited till the right moment to kill them no matter who they were before, but now i really do believe he picked john first
