we have watched shane's career with interest as my partner used to go to the same school as shane, and her mother was a teacher there. so you can imagine my double-take when reading about the new film in the local rag THE SENTINEL this evening. i have been a part of the skin/scooter scene for a number of years now, also being the founder member of the golden torch scooter club, stoke on trent. still have the old D.M'S and flying jacket, and used to wear my S.H.A.R.P. badge with pride...(skinheads against racial preadudice).....remembering the ska/reggae roots. although 33 yrs old,and being about 22 stone, i would be interested in any film extra work available, and have many contacts in 'the scene' today. may i also recommend a local ska band that have been all over europe, supporting the likes of desmond dekker etc, for the soundtrack maybe. the bands called 'rough kutz, and have released cd's. anyway, should i not hear anything from this thread, all the best, and i look forward to watchin the film. bob. Hey there, I've had plenty of Vespa's in my time, never had a Lamb. Once I've got over my Skoda I may get me another Scoot. Anyhow I'm amazed at how much interest this new film is getting, here's hoping it all comes off in the late summer. keep your eyes on the site as I will be giving dave the casting chick's details so people can apply to be extra's etc.
By the way, who is your partner? Did she go to alleynes?

Im really looking forward to this flick. But I have concerns that this may glamourise or promote Skinhead racism and start a reprise of a Neo-nazi skinhead movement (as cult film like american history x and romper stomper did in their countries)
I'd like to know how shane is going to address this issue. (Not that all skins were racist...I know,I know).
Fairplay with your S.H.A.R.P badge mate!

Yeah, I have to say that I'm with Morrel on that one. I used to be a Ska girl in the early eighties and was forever being tarred with the same brush as fascist skins. It's amazing how many people don't realise that the original Skinhead look was invented by those who were really into black ska music and I'm sure that Shane will manage to convey this point across in the film. I was wondering what Shane thought of Nick Love as a director? I recently watched 'The Football Factory' and was thought that he managed to portray the violence and senselessness of it really well. Before everyone jumps down my throat, that is only my opinion and I'm no expert on anything.

Frank Harper was the best thing in Football factory...fills the screen with magic everytime. Commanding prescence.
Isn't every scene peppered with dickheads that will fuck it up for everyone? ravers, Metal heads, Hippies, Mods, Greasers....good and bad people exist in every walk of life. Race, Religion, Sexual Preference, Muscal taste, Fashion even.... The average folk know this too.
I think Sghane will be looking to avoid a political stance, and merely use the scene itself as a backdrop to some good old fashion storytelling, larger than life characters and witty dialogue.
The scene itself is one which people our age (I am 32) can relate to, 80's, mods, skins, crombies, bomber jackets, harrington jackets, DMs (red ones so you can't see the blood!), gluey's....
I look forward to getting hold of some casting details off Dave, as I think I could cut the mustard as a skin....hell I would even shave my proud beard into a handlebar (think Seth off Emmerdale)...would I need an equity card before contacting casting?

Re: Equity card It depends how Shane is doing the film. If he is using Equity contracts (and they will contact the production company once they get 'wind' of the production) then all actors on the film (including walk ons and extras) should be contracted under Equity contracts (walk ons and background artists don't get contracts as such, just pay slips, but are contracted under minimum terms and conditions negotiated by the union). You don't need an Equity card to be engaged under an Equity contract but you do need a max of six Equity pay slips as a walk on/background artist (only for work outside a 40 mile radius of Charing Cross in London as another union the FAA covers the area inside this radius) to enable you to apply for an Equity card or alternatively one standard contract as a Featured/Main Part artist will qualify you to apply for membership. Too much information? Sorry, I used to work for Equity and old habits die hard!
