On behalf of Dr Paul Elliott (Uni. of Worcester):
*Introducing the Midlands Film Research Network *
More and more, virtual networks and communities are being employed as a basis with which to generate high level academic work. The Midlands Film Research Network has been specifically designed to facilitate communication between the various centres of education and research in the Midlands area and we would dearly love your support.
What is the Midlands Film Research Network?
• A community of researchers, educators and practitioners from institutions based all over the Midlands that are primarily concerned with cinema and the moving image.
• It is designed to offer a way of advertising local events, publishing important news, sharing resources and encouraging involvement in the generation of high level research.
• It can be used to spread the word about what is happening in the area of film in the Midlands and also to archive the large body of excellent work that goes on.
• The MFRN consists of a JISC distribution list, a monthly newsletter, a twice yearly peer reviewed journal and a website archive where teachers and researchers can upload finished work and work in progress.
Who is the Midlands Film Research Network for?
• Initially, the MFRN is aimed at teachers, filmmakers and researchers at Sixth form and Further Education colleges (Years 12 and 13).
• Invitations will also extend to local interest groups and production companies, offering a hub of vital information for all those who are part of the community.
• There are plans to extend the scheme to Universities, eventually covering all of the major institutions of film research in the area.
What do you need to do?
• All the need to do is sign up to the distribution list and you will be sent details of how you can contribute.
• We are also looking for:
o Members of a peer review panel.
o Book reviewer s.
o Features contributors.
o Guest editors who may want to concentrate on a particular research area..
o Contributions of news items and items you think might be of interest to the rest of the community.
