Who is the best film producer/director of our time? Is it? Oliver Stone one of the most famous American film director, producer and screenwriters of our time, with films such as " Platoon " and "Midnight Express" and " Natural born Killers ".
Or is it? Martin Charles Scorsese another one of the greats, a man renowned for providing us with amazing films such as "Taxi Driver" and "Good fellas" and "The Departed"
Or could it be the bearded and weary looking Stepehen Speilberg who is also famous for some of the biggest hits in hollywood that include "Jaws" and "E.T" and "Saving Private Ryan"
We also have the the strange and mysterious offerings of Tim Burton famous for "Edward scissor Hands" and " Beetlejuice" and "Sleepy Hallow". Not forgetting the outstanding contributions of George Lucas known for " Star Wars of Course"! enough said..
Who could it be? so many to chose and all so so different?
Please let me know your thoughts at any time! Telling me why they deserve to be no 1 !! What makes them that little bit special and what the best movie they have had to date is!
Or could it be our very own Shane Meadows? who knows!?
Chiz people..

Do you mean director? I'm not sure I can choose a favourite, but I will have to mention Terry Gilliam! Inventive visionary director. Intelligent and witty writer. Bizarre animator. Brazil is still his greatest film (in my opinion). It's an almost perfect film.. by which I mean it is perfect for me! Great fantasist and keen to protect his vision. Brazil is a famous case in the world of film in which the studio wanted to change the edit of the film and the entire ending. Gilliam refused and threatened to burn all copies of it rather than let the studio wreck it! I got the US Criterion DVD edition which features the studio cut of the film as a special extra. Good lord it's a right mess! He co-directed Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and his directorial highlights include, Time Bandits, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Tideland. Plus he makes a mean short film! As featured on the front of Monty Python's The Meaning of Lilfe

I have mentioned some of the big guns, it would be nice to hear about some of the underated, less known individuals that are out there..
I am mad on the gripping and wonderful efforts of people like Alexandre Rodriguez(City of God) or Alejandro González (Amores Perros) Amores Perros is definetly one of my favourites..

Hiya jamie, welcome to the forum. It's hard to answer really. What draws us all here is our collective love of Shane's work. He's my favourite contemporary British director. Unique-nobody else can do what he does. Might be a bit old fashioned to say this, but I am a big fan of "authenticity" and Shane's films have that in spades, for me. When I first saw 24:7 I was knocked out by it- my reaction was 'it smells like Nottingham'-not sure if that makes sense, but it makes sense to me. At the same time, imo A Shane Meadows Film isn't straight forward social realism-there's something there that places Shane in the European art film tradition too-and I love that. Other than that, there are so many directors I like-for so many different reasons-I don't know where to start to list them. I like City of God and Amores Perros too. I love poetic films like Tarkovsky and (contemporay British/Scot) Lynne Ramsey and I also enjoy-and sometimes admire-the full blown popcorn block buster. Scorsese's brilliant (at his best)Taxi Driver might be my all time favourite film-it's 'perfect' imo. I have to be careful about saying anything good about Speilberg, in case my daughter reads my post and I get sent to the house of shame for a decade, but f*ck it-I love E.T. Then there's Hitchcock and...and... If you like Shane films, I would definetly recommend Herzog's Stroszek-absolute heart-breaker. There are a lot of film fans lurking around the site and they're always up for talking films Edit: Not sure if this is really legit-but Shane has a Stroszek avatar so I'l take that as a licence to indulge... I have just now discovered that Stroszek has a 100% rotten tomatoes rating: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/stroszek/Here's a trailer..if you haven't seen it-do ;D

Hello Jill, Hows the craic?
Herzog's Stroszek - if a moderator says its a good un, then I better take a look!
You aint biased or nothing!? thanks for getting on it, I got nothing better to do than roll on to sites with the possibility of talking to strangers or conversing with lunatics on a number of different forums discussing some kind of f!£ked s!!!t that any other poor deluded or lonely (just looking for sympathy)single parent wishes to mention! to be honest it was this or plenty of fish!..
but I like watching films and got time on my hands! I just watched Talk to her, this is by Pedro Almodóvar.. One of my pals was living out in spain and she mentioned it might be my sort of film... it was, funny and a little strange, worth watching!(if you aint seen it already)
Ive gone through my little dvd collection and just come up Straw Dogs and Easy Rider! two blinders, F$£k me whats wrong with me man! I am here putting the little one to bed after singing valerie! for the 100th time and you know what I am gonna watch them! I am all amy-eid out!
Shanes stuff is quality, he has this way of doing things, it just gets ya, I like it a plenty, whats the state of play when it comes to the stone roses?
I like to get things going and have the laugh and take other peoples fews, we never get to see everything or know about all that is good! So its good to hear from other people!
I didnt even think of hitchcock! why would I? I need to open my mind up no? or just have a bloody memory!
Chiz
