Here's a thread in which we can natter about the extra stuff on the DVD (or Blu-ray). I've been trying to chase down the info on the extra a features for a while, but it all seems very secretive. I think it's just that Warp want to release the news first on their own site. Today I had a message saying that they will be launching the TIE88 DVD promo stuff on their site tomorrow at midday. So eyes peeled! UPDATE: Just seen a tweet from Mark Herbert which lists the following extras: Deleted scenes, crew and cast interviews, funny behind the scenes, and commentary by Vicky McClure and Joe Gilgun! There also seems to be boxed sets being released of TIE86 and TIE88 together (on both formats). A reasonable idea you might think, but I can't work out the wisdom behind charging more for the boxset than it would cost to by the two series separately! Maybe the boxset has some extra in it and we'll find out tomorrow. But that will be annoying for the fans who already have TIE86. We'll have to wait and see. Anyway, if you haven't yet, you can pre-order any of this stuff in the Meadows Mart: www.shanemeadows.co.uk/shop.htmIf you don't know, it's basically Amazon, so if you usually buy from Amazon, there really is nothing different about buying or pre-ordering through the Meadows Mart. The only difference is, I get some pence from each sale! .... and I really do mean pence! haha

Extras sound good! Mostly just looking forward to watching it all the way through, non-interrupted though.

Now the DVD is coming out, I'm putting together a webpage for This Is England 88.... but I'm having trouble. Can anyone remember any good trivia about the series? All I can remember at the moment is that the series was originally going to be one, feature length episode.
Any trivia will do.. like unusual cameos, or making of titbits, etc. Thanks

The void of perry Benson, then being explained via twitter was a little underwhelming. Also the end of '86 briefly hinted at the character of Harvey suffering domestic abuse but it didn't follow suit, minor quibbles of a top series.
Still waiting for my dvd to arrive! As above I want to watch it uninterrupted.

Right... that's all the extras gone through! Took me a while as I was re-watching TIE86 first before going on to 88.
Not enough extras for my liking! haha... although no matter how much stuff was on there I would probably still want to see some more!
The commentary with Vicky and Joe is great fun.. reminded me of the banter and larks on the Romeo Brass commentary.
I had kind of forgotten the religion heavy aspect of episode three. Great re-watching the series though, for me it is often the lengthy dialogue fuelled scenes that captivated me the most... Lol and the nurse, Lol and Combo, Lol and Woody... Still a bit baffled by the way Woody is full on inexcusably rude to his bosses new partner. I just don't feel it's something that fits what we know of the Woody character. Maybe just me. Oh and the 'death-bed' moment still is one step too far for my tastes! haha. For me you can feel the influence of the creators on the world of the story at that point and the realism is lost a bit... maybe just me again.
Interesting to hear on the commentary about how many takes there were on the last Woody and Lol scene, with lots of variations of dialogue. They mention how Lol tells Woody about so much stuff... including the abuse from her Dad. But that's not in the finished edit is it (unless I've somehow missed it twice now)? It is odd, because Woody does react in the final edit as though he does know about it, but as far as the audience is concerned, he doesn't does he? So is it a bit strange that he's so fully understanding about Lol killing her Dad? Like I said, I may have missed something there... it wouldn't be the first time! ;D

To be fair, when Combo was telling Lol the story they would give the police, it was to include the history of abuse and that Combo walked in on Mick about to rape her and attacked and killed him. He didn't just say he killed him for no reason at all and so would have got a lighter sentence than otherwise.
With that in mind, I'd have thought that most of the gang - and especially Woody would then know about the abuse. It was the affair with Milky and the fact that it was her who killed Mick which were kept from him until later.
I thought the commentary was funny and quite sweet. I love the way that Vicky talks about her character and the method. I also love how open Joe is about himself.

What you said makes perfect sense.

Greetings from your loyal fan in New Orleans!
I have been a massive TIE fan ever since I saw the film at the Toronto Film Festival and later screened it for a two week theatrical run at my theater, Zeitgeist multi-disciplinary Arts Center.
I devoured TIE 86 when it was released on Amazon UK and just finished watching TIE 88. Oh my God was that amazing! I was heaving, I cried so much...I am totally, emotionally a wreck...and that is a major achievement! Shane, cast and crew congratulations. That was so raw, so real and so honest. thank you all!

Finally, some time and the house/sofa to meself. Perfect... Everybody's already said it all about the performances. It was great to watch the whole thing, uninterrupted, in one continuous flow. The pace/tempo is perfect. And really great to be able finally notice the filmic qualities (instead of being caught up in the plot/drama). There are some lovely moments. The entire scene with Lol and the nurse, then the bus ride and Lol's lonely walk. Loved the slow camera pans and the light and shadow (on the bus especially). Oh and that final scene-cried again Vicki was brilliant throughout, but I think Joe steals the final one-real and raw (close call ). I know pretty much everybody did love TIE 88, so maybe this doesn't need to be said, but I really can't see any reason for a long standing Meadows fan to grumble about 'doing TV' after this-it's fine work . I'm sure it will stand the test of time in the way that good films do and TV dramas sometimes do, but often don't. Haven't watched the extras yet, except some deleted scenes. I think this little piggy might have been a bit too much even for late night C4 Should have definitely left in that Gadget scene though ;D
