Hi, I'm new to this forum and wanted to ask how do you like to show your appreciation of Shane Meadows and his work? ;D Iv come across the fan commentary to 'This is England' and it was really interesting and i wondered if anyone has since been influenced in terms of fashion or anything else from the film? Thank you Tolly

Hi, How has the film influenced you? For example has it influenced your fashion?

Hi, How has the film influenced you? For example has it influenced your fashion? Is this for course or a project or something? I can't say I've been influence by This Is England in any kind of fashion sense (I don't have any ;D ), but like all of Shane's work, it has influenced me in the way I try to write my short films (only done a couple so far though).

Had to go for Deadmans shoes, think I droned on on the commentary about it for the majority of the time, it was such an important film for me to see a story that felt so close to how I'd grown up in that type of group. It was my first introduction to british film that wasn't - blimey geeza apples and pears top banana stop getting shot, the second it finished I skipped it back to the start and watched it again totally blew my mind!
This is England is Shanes best without a doubt though, there were a couple of heightened moments in 86 I wasn't a fan of but aside from that I can't fault any of it, 88' was and absolute masterpiece.

Hi, Yep im doing a unit called cult media at Uni and I adore Shane Meadows, particularly This is England (as you can proberly tell lols). My first task is to survey fan sites and their interaction with the text and so far i have been surprised to find less than three dedicated fan sites for such as brill director! Thank you for your message, thats really interesting. I think Shane's films are like the early social realism ones because they all have elements of gritty topics about real life that Hollywood mainly avoids.
Thank you for your second message. I also enjoyed this film but i have to class it as 'one of those films which is amazing - but i cant eva watch again cos its reli emotional' in my mind along wiv the green mile. I think its a brillant revenge story and so did watching it inspire you to research more into Meadows work or any other work in this genre?

I was in second year of film school at the time not really taking it seriously just smoking weed all the time and having a laugh, I knew I wanted to work in film from I was about 12 but never nailed down specifically what my ambition was, as soon as I saw Deadmans everything changed I knew exactly what I wanted to do and from that point on worked hard at it and yeah it made me search for all Shanes work and then stuff like my name is joe, sweet sixteen etc. etc.

I first watched Dead Mans Shoes, but This is England is my favourite film. I studied it as part of my dissertation, so became engrossed in everything from the film, the fashion, the culture, the politics and most improtantly the music. I now listen to a lot more reggae, ska and soul music all spawning off of the soundtracks of TIE and TIE 86. Also the music of Gavin Clarke and his bands that feature in a few of Shanes films.
I cant say I follow the fashion of TIE, though I do really like the skinhead style and appreciate its roots.
After watching one of Shanes movies I had to watch them all. Like Gareth I got interested in movies by other directors after this which look into similar style stories.
