U Mugs pirated in just 4 days from the official release date . Youtube trailer had almost 5000 hits in the last 48 hrs plus IMDB are linked to the unofficial site/copies and linked to my youtube page/trailer and the IMDB details.
THIS FILE SHARING IS SERIOUSLY BAD IF YOU SPEND 1000s ON A FILM RELEASE. But i,m very happy about it all round really as it was only every going to be a low budget release to put my name on the block it,s worldwide free publicity. Plus there,s little i can do abut it FUNNY SEEING YOUR LITTLE FILM UP ON A PIRATE SITE ALONG SIDE MUTI MILLION POUND FILM PRODUCTIONS and that people thought it worth sharing almost at 5000 hits today plus IMDB reviews from the US.

I didn't do it!
Like you say, the good side is your name and your work gets exposure... worldwide too... for free.... the bad side though is you get nowt for your work!
It's always interesting to read statistics that record companies often throw out there, where they say a track was illegally downloaded so many times... therefore they lost money equal to the value of illegal downloads multiplied by the price of the legal copy. They often forget... that a large number of downloads are probably from people who would never have bought it, or downloaded to see what it was like.... and this can lead to paying fans down the line. It's all a bit unclear.
But on the whole, I think it mostly has a detrimental effect on artists.

some good stuff on piracy in this The way forward is for established artists to cut out the middle man so they can provide us their work for far less but at the same time earn far more money themselves, Louis CK showed the way forward and did well mashable.com/2011/12/23/louis-ck-million/not sure where that leaves unknown artists though, I recently put an hour of content online thats been a big hit locally, I'm trying to cover expenses and hopefully earn a little bit of profit by selling merchandise, it was only made available yesterday so will have to wait and see if that gets me anywhere.

As i said i,m pleased that the film has raised even the smallest of waves and it,s even more amazing as my tiny little film with an miniscule budget most of which went on BBFC fees and Replication costs has had any sort of response. No Dave i know it was not you mate cheers for the Amazon feedback much appreciated. U Mugs made top 5000 ON IMDB MOVIEmeter JUST REFRESHED FOR THIS WEEK Top 5000. www.imdb.com/title/tt2288129/
