I got round to watching this again last night, think I realised why I dont rate it in the same way as RFRB and DMS. I think seeing the supposed cream of British acting talent detracts from what is essentially a good story and a well made film. I reckon if Shane had used relatively new actors then perhaps the film would have gone down a hit. I kind of felt that Ricky Tomlinson, Kathy Burke and even to an extent Rhys Ifans were almost going through the motions and were just acting the same old routines that they are known for. I noticed a lot more last night the actual quality of the film, but everytime Tomlinson, Burke or Ifans were on the screen I was kind of wishing they would dissapear and some new faces would take their place. Carlyle seemed to just recreate his role from Riff Raff. I know it must be hard for actors who have in some ways become stereotyped through years of TV and film roles, but I just felt that it detracted somewhat from what is a great wee film. And am I the only person who thinks that there is something very sexy about Shirly Henderson? You know, in a Dark Crystal Gelfling kind of way... Oh well, I'll call me own taxi!

I don't agree with what you say about Rhys Ifans. He is amazing in it I thought, and I can't imagine anyone else playing the part better than he did (and that includes Mr Considine! Shock!). I though his role was quite unlike anything he had done before... but then maybe I haven't seen much of his work.

For some reason I've never warmed to him as an actor. I dont know why, I'm sure he is very talented, I just dont like him. Its irrational and petty and I cant explain it. My opinion however is just like my bellybutton. It doesn't hold much water.
