Via the wonders of Google alerts I received an update saying that a short film edited by Shane had just been uploaded to YouTube. It's called Flat Out, and was written and directed in 1993 by Nicola Brindly for her degree. The description says it was edited by Shane, and there's really no reason to doubt that.. especially wehn you watch the opening credits..... the music is very familiar! It's a piece Shane later used in Where's the Money, Ronnie? The short also stars a youthful Matt Berry! The film itself is rather odd if you ask me! haha Wonder if Shane remembers anything about it.

I don't remember much about it but It was edited by me I think. Back in the days of intermedia in the mids to late 90's there were tons of people making shorts and we all used to muck in on each others films. I edited and acted in quite a few shorts back then. Think of it as Andy Warhols Studio 54 but with Chicken Tikka Slices and Hi8 tapes instead of Cambells Soup and Super 16mm. If you think that ones whacky Dave you should help me track down the Ginger Haired (no idea what his name was) Sci Fi/Horror director from Northampton. His films have become folklore and noones really ever seen them. I haven't seen a frame of his work but the tales Graham Forde (my mentor at intermedia and beyond) used to tell me about his shoots literally made my sides split. The guy sounded like a modern day Ed Wood. I'm a bit sketchy on the details but I think he worked in a padlock factory in Northampton and not only self funded his films but did all of his own effects etc. Most of which were nearly impposible to achieve and at times life threatening to the Actors. I've not seen one frame of this guys work but I idolise him. On one film, 'Pure Evil' ( ), I think the lead actress walked off set due to getting Loads of nettle stings whilst nearly having her head cut off by some fishing wire (I could be way off with the details here but you get the jisto) and his mum took over the part. Safe to say they didn't look very similar. I wanted to make a documentary about this director but he vanished and then I moved away from Notts/Intermedia, so I never got to meet him. But the passion and undying belief he had in his films/stunts/effects sounded utterly unique and I would give my right arm to watch him work!

That guy sounds amazing. I'd love to see some of that stuff too. Like you say, very Ed Wood. It's like their artistic vision isn't troubled by trifling things such as large scale continuity errors! It's like the idea is the important part, not the vision.
I can put the feelers out on Twitter at least!
