Hi,
Having been a student I was previously able to use Uni equipment but now that I've graduated it is time to purchase a camera of my own. Could anyone point me in the direction of decent but cheapish solutions?
Thanks
Liam
*I have been using Sony Z1's mainly so this may well be what I go for but if I can find a cheaper solution that would be great as it would leave more funds for projects.

Hi Liam, there are lots of variables to consider when purchasing a camera on a budget.
Firstly, what sort of footage do you want to film? Narrative, documentary etc. It's all well and good purchasing a cheap DSLR but if you want to shoot exclusively documentary style then its not necessarily the right choice. Different cameras are good for different tasks. DSLRs have many issues such as not being able to record for long periods, image issues (rolling shutter, moire, aliasing), form factor, sound limitations, usability (having to have multiple lenses etc.).
What's your budget? If your budget is say £300 and you go out and buy a DSLR with kit lens costing £299 it may seem like a good move initially but there are lots of hidden costs to consider. Memory cards, batteries, tripod, sound, lenses etc. will all be essential for most projects which is something you must think about and take into consideration.
If you can provide more information I can help you out further its not just a simple case of buying a camera, there is a lot to consider.
Aaron.
