Gavin Clark "Beautiful Skeletons" album out on 26th May,2014

"Beautiful Skeletons’ is a 22 track collection of songs spanning nearly two decades from Gavin Clark, erstwhile player and songwriter in Sunhouse, Clayhill and musical collaborator with visual director Shane Meadows.

Released on 26th May as a double vinyl album, ‘Beautiful Skeletons’ is a wonderful collection from the Gavin Clark songbook and has been collated by Shane Meadows from an original archive of some 290 songs that he has saved over their twenty year friendship. As he says himself ;

“Gavin Clark is the reason I gave up on my band and on any hopes of a career in music when I was 17 years of age. I heard him play one day in a friend’s kitchen in Uttoxeter and the second he sang I quit. The songs maybe spread out over 20 years, but they are bound together by their simplicity, their honesty and most of all his voice. It’s peerless and so is Gavin.”

A short 40 minute visual accompaniment, ‘The Living Room’ filmed by Gavin and Shane, depicting a sometimes poignant, sometimes amusing snapshot of the pair’s friendship comes as a limited DVD with copies of the LP.

Looks like there is a one-off event coming up in June related to this!

An exclusive one-off event to celebrate the music of Gavin Clark and the early cinematic work of This Is England and Made Of Stone director, Shane Meadows will take place at Rich Mix Cinema in Bethnal Green, London on 10th June.

What the good doctor said, with the addition of the embarrassment of catching a fleeting glimpse of myself in Gavin's living room, and quite bizarrely getting a mention in the credits on the DVD. I'm now looking forward to getting my own page on imdb.com!

Blummin' heck.... I don't really want a whacking great vinyl which I'll never use... where's the CD/DVD combo? That would have sold more wouldn't it?

I may have to just buy that damn vinyl monster! ha Still seems to be available. 5000 initial pressing. I bet they would have all been sold by now if it was just CD/DVD!

Ah, but that gatefold sleeve is very, very pretty. I haven't owned a record player for years now but I still like peering over this great big beautiful gatefold thing while listening to the CD...like them olden days innit.

Worth the investment, I reckon. Plus I tried to burn the CD for a friend and it appears to be copy protected, so now she's gonna have to buy it. Given that the film (which is a wee gem, btw) starts with Gavin talking about being harassed by bailiffs over unpaid Council Tax you can't really begrudge the price tag. Can you?

See, I've been spoiled, because I got to see the short film a couple of years ago when I visited Shane archiving all his old short films.

Its a beautiful piece. Nice touch with the CD held in as part of the inner gatefold.

Get yourself down to IKEA, buy an LP frame for a fiver and stick the LP on the wall if you don't have a record player. It's a lovely retro looking cover. I couldn't resist the temptation of downloading the album yesterday morning. Normally I wait for the physical cd, It's a wonderful collection. I had most of the songs already, but in a lesser quality (grabbed from myspace etc). What strikes me about the album is that it feels from the same age. ie Timeless. It's hard to believe it was recorded over 2 decades. Worth every penny. Thanks Gavin.

I'm a bit of a moody s**t. Read the forum quite a lot but never registered and left comments. However, I've got round to registering and saying something because it had to be said. I got the album with dvd. What a package. Followed Gav from afar (don't know him or anybody who does) since the Smalltime soundtrack and "Beautiful Skeletons" has been worth the wait. Total genius.

Thought I would spend an evening revisiting the Living Room DVD. Put it in but it wouldn't play! Took it out and noticed some surface marks. Seeing as it has been safely stowed away I am a bit concerned. Basically now it won't play at all. How do I feel? F**ckin pissed off. Played the Sunhouse CD to confirm I do look after stuff. Has anybody else experienced problems with the DVD? Is the disc produced by AC30 of poor quality? I don't know but I paid to see but can't see it. Annoyed!!!

That sounds crap. Have you ever ripped a DVD? See if your computer can read it. You might be able to rip the film off the disc and into a video file to watch.
