Hi all - huge lurker but I hope this is a worthy first post. I would very much appreciate thoughts and comments on my new short documentary about FA Cup legend Ronnie Radford... Have a nice weekend everyone!

I think you should delete your post and password protect the vimeo link! It's excellent but I believe making it publicly available online renders it ineligible for competition. It's probably too late for Sheffield docfest this year but I think you could enter it in any doc festival and be accepted. Might have some rights issues with the game footage, mind.
Failing that, it'd make a brilliant segment for a BBC Football Focus or Match of the Day at FA Cup time - they might edit it a bit for such a slot, but I'm sure they'd be interested.
Very well done!

Many thanks for the kind words Rich I'm not too worried about entering it into proper documentary festivals because, as you pointed out, we've used a fair amount of archive footage, ergo possible rights issues. It's nice that you've pointed out the BBC Football Focus/MOTD FA Cup segment idea, as that's kinda what I was going for when going up to Hereford to shoot it! Once it's done the rounds online then I will hopefully get in contact with someone at BBC Sport and see if they'd like to work with me to sort out some sort of nice FA-cup related piece! Cheers again

Match of the Day production team should be easy to contact, let them see it and decide what to do next.
The rights issue might not be as big as you think it is. I'm assuming it's all BBC? I'll ask a few people and see what they say, and let you know.

Indeed, I don't know who would hold the rights, but it's only Match of the Day footage from 1972. Thanks Rich

I'm not into football at all, don't know anything about it but I think you really have something there,
the look on his face at 6:31 to me says everything about life and the human condition, made me well up, and if it were me telling the story that would be my ending - that expression - cutting to shots of the young him and the crowd.
I couldn't give less of a shit about football but I do care about this man and his life, same sort of thing with Senna I could give two shits about formula one but that was amazing!
I think if you were to think about what this is really about and make it a -5min film about a man looking back on the best day of his life it'd be knockout powerful!!
but that's just me haha great work!!!

Hey Gareth,
Many thanks for your kind words about the documentary! It's really nice that so many people, yourself included, have said they really enjoyed the film despite not liking football in any way, shape or form. And capturing that human emotion is, for me at least, why I make these films, so thanks again.
I may indeed think about a shorter edit at some point in the future after I complete the post on two other short documentaries I've filmed recently. The challenge there I think would be getting the background story explained well enough before hitting the human-interest section as you noted!
Cheers!

Can't give exact timeframes I'm afraid, basically slogging through edit 1, then when that's done I'll be able to move on to edit 2! Ha!
