Hey
Just been to Riber Castle seeing as i kind of pass Matlock on my way back to Uni. I live in Nuneaton (where Shane should totaly do a film!) and go uni in Hull!
It was awesome, went in the room where the last scene is! I've got pics if anyone wants to see, its not exciting! Just me and a mate!

I'd be interested in seeing the photos too!
You should be able to display photos on this message board, but I think you have to upload them to some webspace of your own, and then link to them.
There are some sites that host pics for free aren't there? Not sure of any myself though.

If anyone visits Matlock and wants to see the "Sonny's Club" location, head for the United Services Club in the centre of town. I'm sure they'd welcome your visit, especially if you bought a pint or two!
Richard's lair in the film can be easily seen from a bridleway, Moor Lane, which is near to the village of Bonsall. The field it's in is private though.
The garage where the 2CV finally breaks down is just outside a village named Wessington, about 5 miles outside Matlock in the direction of Alfreton.
Riber Castle is privately owned. The best way to view it (legally!) is to park somewhere safely on Riber Road, then walk into the small hamlet of Riber, bear left and walk up a no-through road towards the castle. At the end of the road, a public footpath runs just to the right hand side of the castle gate, keep walking for 200 yards and you end up in a field with stunning views over the town.
Why am I writing this? I ought to be giving guided tours for a tenner a throw!

Received the photos. I will get them up on the site beginning of next week because I will be a bit busy over the next few days.
It's an amzing looking place. I love unusual buildings. It would be good to read more about the buildings past. On the Dead Man's Shoes commentary, Shane mentions that the building isn't particularly old (about a hundred odd years), and was basically a rich blokes dream made reality.
Also mentioned is the fact that it used to be a zoo playing host to some of the worlds least threatening animals. Shane also recalls on the commentary that he visited the zoo with his parents when he was a kid.

I have been to Riber Castle today, it was great. I also went to 'Sonnys Club' and round the back of it. It was spooky standing in the room where Anthony hung himself, sent shivers down my spine.
I'll put some pictures on as soon as I can.

note; conkers of the last entry also contemplated having sex with his girlfriend in the very hut that anthony was hung...i know this as i have known conkers for some time and i am aware of his morbid sexual prowess...  ;D |
