Well finally stumbled upon this site after searching for what must be the millionth time for any of Shane's old short films hoping the t'internet would thrown me up some hidden delights, but alas no.. Ive been a Shane fan for many years now from the late 90s after stumbling upon Smalltime which was shown late night on Channel 4, so followed everything since, and not ashamed to say that Once Upon A Time In The Midlands is one of the best Meadow's offerings despite what the critics say.. It is a film of profoud beauty, humour and heartbreak portrayed in a way that warrants watch after watch and i'm sure in years to come it will be appreciated as much as the more commercial features Shane has produced. The magic of Meadows' never fails to surprise me like when watching A Room For Romeo Brass for the first time and hearing Fairport Convention's music as Morell drives the boys around and the staple switches from relative calmness to all out carnage in the blinking of an eye. I Don't know Shane ever viddies this site but if so then Sir please release some of your really old shorts for the fans who have overdosed on your catalogue of output and need some fresh albeit older celluloid magic and thank you for gracing British cinema.
