Just watched Dead Man's Shoes with the full 5.1 surround mix for the first time.
I didn't think it would make alot of difference really, what with the film not containing any explosions, car chases or helicopters approaching from the rear. I was pleasantly surprised however. Lots of nice ambient sounds, especially when Richard is hanging about at Motson's farm. Bird twitterings etc. All of the music in the film has also been tweaked to take advantage of the surround speakers. With the music already being an integral part of the film, the added effect of being surrounded by each track really adds to the experience of watching the film, and even increases the sense of immersion in the film (quite literally, as well as mentally).
A few highlights for me were the drug sequence and Richard in the gas mask at the door to the flats (you get the respiration sound come at you from behind for added impact).

Very old topic to bring up.....
But, I definitely agree. After making my first post here I watched Dead man's shoes again on a rather new set and holy crap the sound is unbelievable.......I even think my neighbours hit the ceiling after being scared by some shock sounds, lol. ;D
