I filmed this snippet of Gavin and Shane introducing the live performance of the score of Dead Man’s Shoes back in 2012 and have been meaning to upload it ever since. After Gavin’s death in early 2015 it didn’t feel like the time was right to post it, and since then the footage has lain in a folder on several hard drives. It was probably the most precious piece of footage I had and although I never did anything with it I made sure I kept it safe. This intro may have been filmed by other people but I couldn't find any footage online. It's shot on a crappy little old camcorder on telephoto as I was behind a load of people sitting on the floor whom I didn't want to disturb so apologies for the naff quality and shakiness in places. I only met Gavin in person for a few hours, after exchanging emails interviewing him for my blog, and took a few photos, including the one below. He was an exceptional person who made a huge impression on me. For me, he is amongst the greatest singer songwriters of all time. His musical gift was for many without parallel; he is often compared to Nick Drake who, too, was relatively unrecognised in his lifetime. I loved him both as an artist and as a human being and think of him often, with deep fondness and often with tears welling up from somewhere buried deep inside me. And as we all know on here, Dead Man’s Shoes is frequently ranked amongst the 100 Greatest British films of all time.
