I can garauntee this has already been discussed, but anyone wondering what that message; 'cheyne stoking' means that Richard writes on the wall, I'll tell ya... Cheyne stoking is the pattern of breathing someone goes into when they are about to die, when this pattern of breathing occurs, death is inevitable... and there is no going back. I really liked that when i found out

I guess that one hard to spot bong was the only suggestion in the film that they were into their drugs! It is definitely Cheyne Stoking.... I think we may have mentioned this in the early days of this website, but it's always good to let new people know about it. When I watched the film and saw it written on the wall, I had no idea what it meant, and was pretty much scared to ask anyone incase I looked like a right ignoramous. I did presume at first that it was some kind of drug reference or similar. I swiftly looked the term up online and realised that hardly anyone would be aware of the term, and so I could once again rest at ease that I wasn't a complete fool. It works really well as a threat, if you bother to find out what it means! I doubt the characters in the film had a clue what it was on about, or bothered to find out... the more pressing emergency of Sonny's missing gear was on their minds. I presume that Richard would have learnt about this term in the army perhaps?

i remember been stumped by this for a while so i posted a question about what it meant when DMS first came out and the good fellow Mr Meadows got back to me to let me know the meaning of it. Apparently the idea to use that came from Paddy's missis who is a nurse, Shane also told me that it was going to be the title of the film for a little while untill everyone thought it said chain smoking? ? Oh also, if you read this dave i will be sending you my short story soon but im a total slack shit, i will deffo send it next week and if you could forward it to Shane as we disscussed i would be eternally grateful.

yeah the possibility of cheyne stokin being the title of the film is true, it says so on the commentary on the DMS dvd, the proper one not the one where they fluff it up!

I really liked that when i found out CHEYNE STOKING is the last days of life mate. Its an improper breathing pattern that occurs when you're just about to die. Cheyne stoking is written on the wall for the obvious reasons
