Having just seen the american trailer dave's linked to in the main page, it made me wonder what our friends the other side of the pond will think of our beloved Dead Mans Shoes?
will they hate it? will they love it?
theres a good chance of either, considering the film is so different from what usually comes out of, and is marketed to the US.
so what d'ya think? will a whole load of american fans flood to the forums after it's release?
just wondering dave, when does it get released over there?

The forum for dead mans shoes on the IMDB (www.imdb.com) has a lot of positive posts from our American friends. How could anyone not like the film? Every single person that I have showed it to, and theres a lot of em, have loved it.

From what Paddy tells me, we have had a fairly mixed reception over the pond. I know the new york times loved it and a few other major hipsters, but I think the more generic press didn't get it at all, seeing it as a poor impression of a revenge film. Who needs filmaking when you've got hollywoood aye!

The opinion of most American film critics counts for nothing, anyway - you've only got to read the review snippets on some American DVD covers - they like some pretty terrible films and make our very own Paul Ross look like a posterboy for journalism ;D

The News Of The Screws ain't the same without him. It's still shit though. Good job he's got a smorgasbord of talent to sustain his career; apparently one of his brothers has got a slot on the radio....? Failing that I Love 2006 is only just round the corner And anyway, critics schmitics. Anyone with enough brain power to work a DVD player or buy a ticket for the flicks will surely see that DMS is a top bollock piece of cinema innit.

Unless you're bothered by violence, I fail to see how anyone wouldn't enjoy Dead Man's Shoes - films of this calibre are all too rare, IMO.

This makes me want to know if Paul Ross has ever reviewed DMS anywhere. It wouldn't have been on GMTV, I bet.

Christ on a bike, after reading some of the IMDB comments and some on Rotten Tomatoes I'm really quite angry now. How can people be so totally clueless? There really is no hope for humanity.

Christ on a bike, after reading some of the IMDB comments and some on Rotten Tomatoes I'm really quite angry now. How can people be so totally clueless? Here's some more equally unfathomable questions. 1) How is it that a completely lackustre film like The Da Vinci Code can take more than $200m in the US? 2) Why is it that a completely incabable director like McG is still allowed to make films? 3) Why do brilliant films like The Blues Brothers and Blade Runner flop upon original release? Are you beginning to see a patern? Could it be that mainstream ( note: I said mainstream. Many American cinema-goers are quite discerning) American audiences are clueless? Just a thought... ...then again, look at the shite that's popular in our multiplexes!

2) Why is it that a completely incabable director like McG is still allowed to make films? Here! Here! He quit Superman to make Charlies Angels 3, Phew!

As an american i can say that this movie is Wonderful! I liked everything but the music, it was okay, it reminded me of the music in rivers edge. anyhow, I think the film was great and everyone acted really well. They were better than American actors! The old renault was cool, you could see all of the characters together well as opposed to just in windows or something.

It was a Citroen 2CV not a Renault.
