Hi, i apologise if this has been asked before, but i'm at College at the moment and having difficulty properly accessing this forum.
Anyways, i'm currently writing a report on Independent and British films, with Dead Man's Shoes being one of the main films i am talking about.
However, the one big problem i am having is finding out the budget for this film...
If anybody has any clue as to what the budget for the film was, it'd be excellent and would help me so much.
Thanks for any help you can give, Z?

I don,t know how accurate this is though. Paul

Sounds about right Paul.
There was talk around the time of the film, that Mark Herbert went off to raise funds and week later he had managed to get a whopping three quarters of a million. The final budget is probably closer to the million mark.

Wow...that's actually a huge budget...
I honestly thought it would be smaller than that. Hmm.
Was it all raised without any finance from the big studios?

They decided whatever they could get would be the budget - they were willing to shoot it for five grand on miniDV, but he was surprised he got 750k pretty easily. Judging by IMDB's company credits, the funding bodies involved were EM Media and FilmFour. I don't know if it was pre-sold to the distribution companies, but money could've come from those.

yeah they'd planned to make it for 75,000 and it ended up costing a million. and no, its not really a huge budget. Most films cost millions and millions. 1 million is actually a very small budget in the film world.
I didn't know that about the 5 grand and mini DV PC? thats pretty interesting.

Oh, don't get me wrong, i am aware that the budget is very low compared to the usual big budgets you get for big hollywood films, etc. It's just that i was expecting a much smaller budget for this sort of film. It's actually a higher budget than that of Human Traffic, which actually had a lot more technology going for it, etc. Anyways, thanks for all of the help. It's been a real lifesaver. 2 days until i finish my course now Z?

I think what happened with DMS that made it more expensive was that everyone got paid, Z. I don't know this for sure or anything, but my theory is that it wasn't done with deferred fees for cast and crew (I think even the director of Human Traffic has yet to make any money from it).
