With regards to 'Midlands' and Shane's obvious personal disappointments with the making of the film does he think he will ever 'go big' again and, if so, does he reckon there is a happy medium when more money is involved or are you always destined to be stitched up by 'the man'?

I don't know about in this country but it seems writer/directors still manage to make some ( not many ) really good films on a big budget across the pond. P.T. Anderson for one has gone on to make amazing films on high ( not titanic standards ) budgets after making Hard Eight relitivly cheaply. Over here we have a fucked up film industry but it's trying to get better, people like Shane and Lynne Ramsay are leading the way, making beautiful, thought provoking films on a shoe string. Also, amazing to see Paddy pick up best British actor at the Empire awards, nice one Pads.

Lynne Ramsay did a really nice short I saw on my scriptwriting course, which also appears on the Cinema 16 DVD of shorts. Forget the name though!!

Oh and another thing, doesn't it really piss you guys off when you see countless remakes getting money chucked at them, whilst film makers like Shane and Lynne Ramsay and tons of others have to struggle to get films made that are inevitably way better!! What got my goat the other night was a trailer for Amityville Horror!! WHY? ? Another anoying thing is american audience's unwillingness to watch foreign films. They remade Taxi, Ring, The Grudge. And to top it all The Grudge and Ring 2 are both by the original Japanese directors!!!! How many Shane Meadows and Kevin Smiths and (insert independent film makers name here) are getting pushed aside to satisfy hollywood. My moan is over for now.
