Just a question to Shane, where did you get the idea of the stuff Richard sprayed on the wall? A terminally ill persons breathing pattern!!!! jesus! It took me ages to find out what it meant. I love that kinda shit, nice one.

Mark's (the producers) wife was a nurse at the time we were planning the film. She mentioned it to me and Paddy as a term that nurses used on the wards when a patient was about to die, the way in which their breathing changed. We were blown away by this. We both wanted to find ways of illuminating how much time Richard had put into his revenge. Using this rare terminology was a great way of doing it. The film was nearly called 'Cheyne Stoking' until everyone kept thinking it was called 'Chain Smoking.'

I didn't know what this meant either until I watched it at work with a nurse (I'm a care worker for people with learning disabilities) and she went " oooh that's clever!" and then explained it to me. It was like a missing piece in a jigsaw another layer of Richard's character hit me face on. Genius!
