Hmm lets see;
If were talking comedy we've got greats like The Office, Alan Partrige, Peep Show etc etc.
If were talking drama - Im a big fan of Chancer which launched Clive Owen!
Dunno about any others.

I third that! The couple of times I have been unfortunate enough to stumble into it, it has made me want to break something. Painful crap.
My Brit TV list will probably mostly be comedies too, as it's what I watch most of.
Got to include, The Office, Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Extras, Black Books, The Thick of It, Spaced, Look Around You, Father Ted, The Royle Family, Fawlty Towers, and the tragically overlooked 15 Storeys High (possibly my favourite sitcom!). That's just for starters! Can't get enough Alan Partridge.... and scarily I find that I know the majority of all the series' line for line! haha Tragic yes... but I blame it on the fact that it is almost perfectly written, so can't help but stick in the mind.

As everyone's said, there's a lot of genuinely great comedy in this country over the last few years. There's also a load of utter shit "comedy" - like My Family. Or "My Family but the dad is a superhero". Or "My Family but both multicultural and with a handicapped son - look at how great and PC we are!" Basically, the Beeb's mainstream attempts at family comedy shows.
Dramatic stuff, the UK can't hold a candle to the best of the American shows at the moment. Either in terms of writing, acting or production quality. Lost and Sopranos and a good few others blow the Brit shows out of the water. And I used to be a fan of Andrew Lincoln and Jon Simm, but they're so bloody similar - and there are only so many Northern laddish heroes that can be original.
And then there's reality TV, which is all total bollocks.

Admitedly reality tv is utter shit but every country does it so we arent to blame, also dont forget we managed to cram a few Brits in to Lost. Drama wise the uk never really hits the nail on the head and usually cop out and do Jane Austen or other period dramas instead. We clearly out do the yanks in comedy even when its not that great - I mean, did you see the US version of the Office?!!

I've seen loads of the American 'The Office' and have enjoyed it quite a bit... definitely more than I expected.
If you have only seen the first episode of the first series, then I can understand the disliking of it, because that episode is basically a re-hash of UK episode, almost verbatim. You just keep watching it thinking of all the UK characters that the US actors are representing and find it quite annoying. Well I did. But the rest of it has been mostly good I say!
The David Brent character is called Michael Scott in the US version.. and is played by that bloke mentioned above, Steve Carell, and he's really good in it.

I think Brass Eye and The day today are the best british television comedies - Chris Morris is pure genius! Just bought TDT on DVD and am loving it. I was quite dissapointed with Morris' most recent foray into comedy - Nathan Barley, nut still found it laugh out loud at points.
What do others think about Morris' Comedic career?

I love Chris Morris' stuff. Nathan Barley wasn't as funny as Brass Eye, but I loved the ethos behind it. Being at university, I'm in a similar position as Dan Ashcroft (surrounded by a bunch of moronic sameheads) - the first episode is my favourite of all things on television this year.

I used to be a right Chris Morris fan! I used to be the one with my 'taped off the telly' video of Brass Eye and passing round trying to convert everyone. This was years before the DVD came out First caught Morris during the first run of The Day Today. I just sat there thinking "I've never seen anything like this before and it's amazing!" Then hunted down all three series of Blue Jam he did on radio one (featuring the cast that were used in the TV series Jam), and his other radio shows from years gone by. Started to become less of a fanatic by the time Jam was on TV. Then My Wrongs was a bit of a let down for, because I had been hyping it up to myself and expecting a full-on retake of his Rothko radio sketch in Blue Jam. The Brass Eye special was also a pale imitation of the earlier Brass Eye series.... regardless of the subject matter, it just wasn't as good. It had it's amazing moments, but was patchy as hell I thought. Wasn't too bothered with Nathan Barley either. I hear Morris is going to be in a new sitcom called The I.T. Men by Graham Linehan. He is to play the boss of the I.T. company which is to be a semi-regular role. Anyone else seen Chris Morris' appearance on Kilroy!?

Morris' was on kilroy? Did not know that!
I think the Brass eye special is one of the best and not just because it crosses the decency line by another couple of steps.
I agree with ya about My Wrongs though, didnt find it too amusing. Surreal yes, funny no. (and its got good old padster in it whcih is always a bonus.
"A stairwell noncebashing left North quadrospazzed on a lifeplug" He has a real way with words does old Morris.
