Biffy Clyro's forthcoming single.... first totally new release since the Puzzle album. It's guaranteed to be catchy after one listen! haha Very power poppy rather than rocky, but a great tune none-the-less. Ryd maybe interested if no-one else is. Has to be said, that's a great track! Love a bit of Piano me. Looking forward to seeing this live at Reading. Cheers Dave. You seen the 18 minutes of their Glastonbury set on the BBC site? Lovely stuff! www.bbc.co.uk/glastonbury/2008/artists/biffyclyro/

Watched that Dave, thanks, pretty dam good.
So I finally got Thursday's Kill The House Lights. Fantastic 3 (new?) songs at the start all as good as each other. Original intro to How Long is the Night is pretty cool. The Roar of Far Off Black Jets is great too, love it in the sleeve notes where it says "we're not Mogwai... obviously" ha ha, its a nice Mogwai-esque track though. The Paris In Flames demo is also, just as good as the normal track, love that song to bits. Haven't watched the DVD yet.. should be good.
Also bought Frank Turner's new album, at first didnt think much of it, but now i'm singing along like a pro! Love this guy's lyrics. Can't wait to see him live. I couldn't recommend him more.

I've just listened to Elliott Smith's XO album. I've not had it on for probably the best part of 3 or 4 years. I don't know why either because it's fucking beautiful and incredible.
I also can't believe it's a month shy of being 10 years old. Wow.

Wheatabeat, do you like Heatmiser?
I've been listening to the first Fountains of Wayne album. It's ruddy perfect power-pop. I wish I'd heard it 12 years ago when it came out.
I'm also listening to the new Hold Steady album which is very good.

Yeah you should. It's Elliot Smith's band before he went solo.

(Their second album, Utopia Parkway, is one of my favorites.) Speaking of power-pop, I've been listening to Big Star's #1 Record / Radio City again lately.

I acquired that recently too, I didn't realise they were such a huge influence on Cheap Trick; you can really hear it.

I have Cheap Trick's Live At Budokan LP, but I haven't listened to it in quite a while -- I might give it a spin sometime this weekend... In the meantime, you've inspired me to break out my Fountains Of Wayne CDs again (everything from their self-titled through last year's Traffic & Weather).

Beck – Modern Guilt
Mutations spliced with Mellow Gold. With a shit load of drums. An improvement on his last two efforts. He's found some tunes. Not always his either but he presents them in fascinating ways.
7 outta 10

The mercury nominated Portico Quartet - track 2 and track 9 from their album. If you leave track 9 running, after 3 minutes of silence (at around 6mins 15) there's an absolute cracking little ending. Some of the most inspirational music I've heard in a while.
