VIDEO GRADE AND SOUNDMIX UNDERWAY.

After a few days off last week, We have begun the Picture grade and the Soundmix process. Even though we graded Dead Mans Shoes Digitally, things really have moved on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. Where on DMS, we had to work in about 10 different departments, for Grading, On Line Editing, Titles, Scratch and Hair Removal etc, we now have a guy called Gareth (Motion FX in London) who seems to be able to do it all himself and as costs have come down, we also have more time available to get the best out of the material.

It really begins to look like a film at this stage as we begin to create the overall look and feel for the film. Compared to the very limiting old school way of grading which involved some 98 year old guy telling you he could make it a bit warmer or a bit colder, we know have complete control over the whole kitchen sink and can literally do just about anything we like with the images.

With so many options available, half the battle is not to smack the film with the filter brush and end up with a self absorbed over stylized pallette of shite. Restraint is the key and I'm trying as hard as I can to stop Danny Cohen (DOP) turning everything Dark Blue.

Anyhow i have tried to include a picture of the Motion FX grading suite below and must now return to my chores.

Very close to finishing now. You don't want to know the potential release date m8. It is truly wankola!!! I may have to arrange an early screening for some of you guys to stop you running off with Nick Love or Guy Ritchie after going grey waiting forever, for this frikker!
