Found a Ch4 documentary from 1995 called 'World of Skinhead' by Doug Aubrey on one of the bittorrent sites(Mininova). It is about an hour long and contains interviews and footage of skins from all around the world. Not had chance to watch it all yet but from the first 10 mins its clear that this would be of interest to all fans of TIE and Shane. It spends time exploring what it means to be a skinhead and how the culture evolved. It also has a great reggae soundtrack!

Yeah, I got hold of that Docco of Ebay when i was writing TIE. There was also a great docco made by the BBC that followed the band combat84 around. I think there are clips from both of these Docco's in the opening montage of TIE.
I would love to see Channel4 or the Beeb make a definitive Docu about the movement. There's surprisingly little out there.

Maybe when TIE comes out and wins more awards they'll put one together! I know its looking way into the future but is there any chance of a skins doc on the DVD?

Can anyone remember that play that was on the telly round 80, 81 about the skinhead/oi band called (I think) White Ammunition?

I think it was called Oi for England?
If my memory serves me correct someone out of drop the dead donkey was in it?
I would love to find a copy of this as I can remember virtually nothing about it and am not even sure if I saw it?
Any shipmates???

Been searching for it for ages. From what I can remember it was about an oi band who were arguing about their direction. I think it was the bass player who was against them going 'white power'. There was also some dodgy bloke in a suit offering them money or work if they went 'white'. They played a couple of songs (I can remember one being called 'Pass The Ammunition') and the whole thing was filmed in one cellar-like rehearsel room. The skinheads were dressed in the early eighties style, bomber jackets, bleached jeans rolled up to the knees and thin braces.
Don't quote me on this but I'm sure it was on ITV.

You've probably heard of a docu from a couple of years ago called "Skinhead Attitude", by Swiss director Daniel Schweizer. It's a good balanced piece, available on DVD (got mine from eBay Germany) with both English and German languages included. Also an award-winning film.

I was surfing around Amazon tonight and came across a book called Oi for England by Trevor Griffiths. Trevor Griffiths has the writing credit for the 1980s tv drama of the same name, so I guess this was a dramatisation of the book. Anyway, not good as getting your hands on the doc, but looks interesting-second hand copies available for 9 quid.

Not sure if anybody on site knows the early 70s Richard Allen books on Skinheads (much beloved by Julie Burchill, who's a similar age and similar background to me)? I read a few of them when I was a wee girl and thought they were brilliant. Anyhoo, if anybody's interested in these as a document of cultural/youth history they're still available on Amazon-though the first one is pretty expensive (about £20 second hand). Wonder what I'd make of them now........
