i suggest you go on imdb on tie page and read a thread headed" pretty poor acting" and follow the posts by a geezer who calls himself blackadamiz or something along those lines i have been in discussion with him for a while and at first i thought he was intellegent and had some point to make, but alas no he just wants to be contraversial by rubbishing the film and everyones performances, can we drag him onto our forum and humiliate him PLEASE......

How can anyone even try to compare this is england to American history X. American movies suck. And I am american and I said it. Whatchu gonna do bout it?!? British movies, directors and actors in my opinion are far more creative and original than the ol cookie cutter american heathen. Besides, british actresses are really cute and real. For example Like Vicky and Sophie and the girls in this is England. Or england in general

I like American History X I do too, mate. And it’s a little bit dismissive to state “American movies suck”, Kunstler, even if you are American, mate. There have been some great American films (granted, Haggis’ CRASH isn’t one of them!), it’s just that they’re becoming fewer and further between. There are some great American filmmakers that continually surprise, or at the very least, entertain – Martin Scorsese, Alexander Payne, Spike Jonze, Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, the list could run and run.

I think with American History X it was the tone of it that caused all the problems with the director eventually leading Norton to do extensive rewrites of the script that changed the overall tone of the film. I dont know the details but it is well documented.

I think with American History X it was the tone of it that caused all the problems with the director eventually leading Norton to do extensive rewrites of the script that changed the overall tone of the film. I dont know the details but it is well documented. Director Tony Kaye has maintained he shot and edited a "masterpiece" but it wasn't to Norton's liking and he promptly re-edited the film without the filmmaker's involvement. Kaye was so mad, he took out full page ads in Variety and Hollywood reporter, dissing Norton and New Line Cinema. He hasn't made anything since, though he's supposed to be working on something...

From IMDB:
Edward Norton was said to have re-edited the film to lengthen his screen time. Director Tony Kaye then attempted to get his name removed but violated a Directors' Guild of America rule that states that directors that use pseudonyms (such as "Alan Smithee") must not talk about why they had their name removed - which Tony Kaye had done in ads in Variety. Kaye sued the DGA and New Line Cinema for $200 million stating that the DGA rule violated his first amendment rights.
