Just wanted to say that the scene in This is England where Shaun's mother takes him to the cafe and speaks to the gang about his haircut was a lovely depiction of a mother who is both concerned and cares for her child. I thought that Jo Hartley delivered it perfectly when she addressed the group about Shaun's haircut and then left him with them in the cafe. I also liked the scene when she came into Shaun's bedroom at the end of the film and sat on his bed with him as he looked at the photograph of his father.

Hey nice words there carolyn I couldnt agree more. I've added a *SPOILERS* bit to the the title of the thread. Keep in mind people may be reading this forum who haven't seen the film, so be sure to add this if you think you're writing something that may spoil the film for people who haven't seen it.

Yeah that scenes acted great, not only by Jo, but by everyone, and although its a serious matter, theres still that humor in it, which makes it seem that bit more realistic, if ya get me? haha and it can also relate to many people, im sure

I also liked the scene when she came into Shaun's bedroom at the end of the film and sat on his bed with him as he looked at the photograph of his father. Those were great scenes, beautifully done. In the first one, she sees how basically harmless Woody and his gang are, and she quickly learns to trust them with her boy; and in the other scene, for all of her nagging (about Shaun's language, his lack of appreciation for the clothes and things she gets for him, etc.), a little moment such as this shows that she really in in tune with her son's feelings.

Also the very end scene, on the bed. Very true to a mother son relationship. Very well acted.

I think Shaun's Mom paused and asked whether she could come into the room before she entered his bedroom as well which showed some respect for her child. Nice.

Is it just me being a right soft get, but the scene where Shaun's mum comes and sits with him on the bed towards the end brings a tear to my eye, especially when it blends into the cover of The Smiths song. Everything just feels really poignant around then.

the end scene i dont think would have worked unless tomo and jo had a fantastic off screen relationship, the way she lifts his legs so she can sit down is a true tender moment.....
