First Off.... Shane your Films rock. This is England and Dead mans shoes are definitely British classics. For me you are the Best director at the moment. Avatar rocked it captured my imagination and was brilliantly executed, James Cameron is a great director. You capture something that I don't believe any other director has for a long time. Believe ability. I actually get completely immersed in the films. this is odd but true. I actually feel like I know lol, Milky, combo and the gang. every character could of been anyone of the people i knocked about with in the 80's. Massive respect to you and your cast, they are all fantastic and brought there characters to life. Seriously this stuff is unparallaled for me. Secondly.... If Eastenders can run for 20 years and be crap from start to finish why is their only 6 episodes of TIE '86 serious question. I love film it rocks. So thank you for your contribution, once upon a time, Dead mans and TI England are pride of place in my collection will be adding TIE '86 on release. More please.

Agreed, Shane's work is one of the few things that's saving UK cinema at the moment. Why we're stuck with the generic crap that gets churned out week in week when people like Shane should be at the forefront of UK TV and cinema is beyond me. I despair sometimes.

Hello, new to the site, love Shane Meadows' work an awful lot. Been bothering my friends for years, telling them what ones to watch and even forcibly lending them the dvds. Luckily they all sat up and listened when '86 came on Hope Shane continues to make quality films/tv for years to come.

I must have been quite buzzed when I happened upon this site, but I am thrilled to have stumbled upon it just now, while cleaning up some email folders. ;D So, I have no way of counting all the film I've taken in during the course of my life. In the form of Titles? Nameless. Hours? Countless. But...broke down in to QUALITY? That is EASILY answered..in the form of two words... Shane Meadows. Because of a vast and nurtured feeling of absolutely zero amount of self worth through my childhood and most of my adult life, I didn't realize my "calling" or (whatever you wanna call it) was in the form of "Studying The Arts". I wasn't taught to, and have to admit, I was totally ignorant of claiming any positive qualities of my own. But I can now, as of the last few years, claim what I excel at. My gift is picking the "gonna be's". I am a virtually brilliant talent scout!! It took a while to realize, but after the first half dozen or so, a good friend of mine pointed out..."Hey! You introduced me to this one and that one, people/bands I'd never heard of-and look! They're friggin' mainstream household names now!" I have O.C.D.. And while this illness(?) is problematic for most people, it helps me do what I do best. I can watch film WAY past the point of viewing as a fan. Same with listening to music, reading and re-reading a book, or poetry, a letter, whatever. I STUDY these things, even if I'm not so much a fan of the task at hand, it's just- what I do. Problem is: I have yet found a way for my "talent" to put money in my pocket. I want to go to school, as my education is minimal. But I don't know what to study that will point me in the right direction, what to study that I will actually use. Of course I want to be a writer. (Who doesn't,eh? ) I want to do something in film, (again, who doesn't?), and I want to prove to the people who have always dragged me down, that I AM good at something. And not just good at something, I actually have talent!!! lol... So, off the subject of me me me... On to you, Shane. The people who know me best have been telling me I have this gift/knack... and say, ten years ago, they say, Hey, Laura, who's your favorite director? Please, take no offense, but when the whole Tarantino/ Independent blast hit the scene, although I don't actually 'dis-like' any person's work, and because I respect anyone who gives it their all, I try and never talk sh*t about them, as they have my undying respect, even if their style isn't exactly my cup of tea. Note: I say this in regard to film. It's hard to find a film I can't sit through, though I certainly enjoy some way more than others. Music is a different story. There's a lot of music out there that I feel should have never been made. However, it was 2009 until I found my favorite film director. Shane Meadows, of course. To this day, I've only had one favorite. You seem to have breathed new life to film, IMO. You've given me a whole new appreciation and whats more- you've given me ANTICIPATION for what's to come in film. I adore and admire your work beyond words. And if you're 1/10th as sensitive as you portray yourself, I'd like to know if you'd be my new best friend. ;D And FYI...I'd be happy to be your personal assistant on any future works. Thank you so very much for entertaining me. Much love, admiration and appreciation from Ohio, Laura P.S. I watched my Grand Daughters about a month or so ago so my Son could go to a Guided By Voices concert in Dayton. He knows them, and his band plays the Dayton area at present. His band is called "Sad Cadillac", only been together like 8 or 9 months. But they're doing pretty well. I'm volunteering their time and work for any future film of yours. P.S.S. I hope Donk's Piles is all cleared up.

Hi Shane Meadows, along with being a great fan of your work, I am also eager to gain some advice from you. My name is Lea Weller and I have recently completed an honours degree in Sociology and Film and Television Studies. I am eager to work in both film and television, with the greatest and most talented directors. My reason for this email is that I would like to enquire about volunteering the forthcoming This is England '90. I have a great love for all of your work Shane and I would love to have the opportunity to meet with you and the cast and crew, as I believe you are one of Britain’s great directors. I have literally viewed your CV including, Small Time and Where's the Money Ronnie?, Somers Town, Twenty Four Seven, A Room for Romeo Brass, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, Dead Man's Shoes, Le Donk and Scor-Zay-Zee and both This is England and This is England '86. I absolutely cannot wait for This is England ’88 to get all those loose threads tied up. I am very ambitious and hope to be working on both films and television series of my own someday. I have a story that I am in the process of writing and hopefully one day I will get the opportunity to turn it into a Film/television script. I have recently started a blog in which I write about many aspects including writing film reviews and blogging my own ideas and thoughts I have included the URL at the bottom of this post. I was born in 1986 so I missed the greatest period of individuality, and if I was there I would have embraced being a youth in the 80's and 90’s, and probably been a new romantic myself. I am looking forward to your take on the 90’s rave scene and I am determined to be involved. I hope that you will accept my request of volunteering on the set and location shooting's for This is England ‘90, as I am keen to gain any experience I can; following on from some of the best shows aired on television. Any advice and experience you could give me would be greatly appreciated to aid me in my journey towards my future career. Thank you for your time and I hope to be working with you and the rest of the crew in the near future. Lea Blog URL: leacassandraweller.blogspot.com

It's always great to hear how someone is finding the website useful. The original idea I had for the website was that it would just be a place to post links to Shane Meadows related information all over the internet, but it definitely grew from there. The LINKS page is pretty up to date, but I often leave it quite a while before updating it if most of the links are still on the home page. If you are looking for any specific information, then just ask. We may be able to help.
