Hi Dave & Jill and to everyone else. I'm a new member who's a MASSIVE This Is England fan. My Shane Meadows story so far....
I bought TIE on DVD in the 'bargain bin' in my local Asda, (must have been sometime in 2009) knowing nothing about the film or Shane Meadows. Really enjoyed it, infact it blew me away!!! Watched it 4 or 5 times, then forgot all about it. Then in 2010 I saw the trailer for TIE '86 on Ch4 and thought, 'nice-one! I'll have to watch that!' Loved it and also really enjoyed TIE '88 even though I found it very dark in places, but completely related to it as I suffer from the occasional bouts of depression. At the time of first watching TIE '88 last year I thought to myself, 'I'm gunna have to check this Shane Meadows guy out and find out what other films he's made.' Looked up his other films on google and then forgot to follow through and buy/download another SM film.
Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, when my mate said to me, 'here watch this, it's a belter!' and handed me a copy of Dead Man's Shoes. WOW!!! What a great British Film. Checked out Shane's official site, and here I am!
Just wanna say that I really can't wait to watch his other films/shorts as I've just spent the last couple of hours digging around on the internet for various clips and interviews. I didn't even realise that Mr. Monkey Man himself, Ian Brown was in TIE until about 20 minutes ago after watching a 'making of' on youtube. (I'm a massive Oasis, Stone Roses fan.)
Just watched a clip from Smalltime on youtube and I think I'm gunna start off there and work my way up. I now consider myself a Shane Meadows fan! I won't be a really big poster on here but I'll try and share my ten penners worth every so often. Keep up the good work guys. Many thanks,
Basil.
