I have decided that on reading through the 'Is Shane Gay' thread a number of times and the growing number of 'Read my Script', 'Give me Part', 'Visit my House' threads from people who have never posted before, that I will place an embargo on replying to new members until they have posted a fair few times and proved themselves as worthy and genuine maniac material. There have been a massive number of 'Giz a Job' single posters over the last few months and I understand the longer serving members frustrations as our beloved forum is rapidly turning into a Job Centre.
What do Dave and the crew think would be a good number of posts needed to prove that people aren't just looking for a strip of skin off my back and a date with my Mrs?
Also, 95% of the private messages I receive are of a similar Ilk and I have stopped reading them as I have 300 unanswered messages and it feels like I haven't done my homework. I will still answer/help/update as much as I can through the forums but as the PM function has become a posting board for interview requests, Actor CV's and people looking for work. I am going to have to cut the cord on that batphone, I'm afraid. I understand people need a break, but as the site has grown so much and the number of people looking for interviews, acting work or some kind of break is set to bursting point, I can't keep up and it just isn't fair to help one person and not another.
Can you turn it off Davey Baby?
I love this site and am not gonna stop coming on here, but we do need to make a few subtle changes to ensure we never have another 'Gaygate'.

100% behind you with this Shane ("Ooh er, missus!") - I know I've done some 'spoof' stuff re: "Shane PLEASE answer me" threads and a youtube vid - but that's just me taking the p*ss out of all this - I'm sure it's pretty annoying for you - I reckon people just appear on here and assume that you 'owe them' - Gawd knows why but hey - you're famous, won't you please let them share in that? The answer to that is no - b*lls to them - I find it very rude when it's the FIRST thread and folk are on the scrounge... no intro, no attempt to join in (even if just to ingratiate). I have to say I'd been a member here for quite a while and joined in with all the fun, and eventually I PMd you for a quote for my 'Laughter Therapy' site which you kindly obliged to - now, I didn't assume that you would, and it was a pleasant surprise to receive your support. For me, I reckona 50 post minimum should be effected before you'd even consider replying to these scroungers - surely any decent 'Meadows Maniac' can manage that amount... anyone else is just a pretender! I think that a good idea. I'd be wary of Bumpers though. If people see that they have to make at least 50 post to be 'worthy' you might end up getting 49 post's going "Yes", "Hmmm Interesting point" "No" "Really?" then on the 51 post it's ..."Giz a job!"
I think the '50 post test' is a good start but is enevitably like a retroviral drug to a virus, eventually the virus will evolve and find new ways to infect. You could just delete all blaggers posts, full stop.
I'm glad you love the forum and wont be put off by it. Thanks for talking to Paddy about getting back on his after receiving a few similar shitty ends of the stick himself.

Am intrigued here - he had similar trouble from the 'Yosser Hughes Giz A Job' brigade then? As to the 'bumpers' - well... we can just ignore the monosyllabic responses if just to make 'em do 50 posts... at least it does show at least a degree of determination rather than the ones who do it 1st post... I've run a few forums over the years, and my faves of that ilk are: "Nice site - love it. Now visit mine at..." And do I fall for it? Do I Donald Duck! I just wait for thm to post again and watch the tumbleweeds blowing past whilst doing so!  N. |

But we've had a couple of bigger problems: 1) A while back when Paddy was briefly offered a role as the villain in the upcoming Punisher: Warzone, he only told us forum members about it as part of a thread about "selling out," and the next thing we knew, word had gotten out about it and a whole bunch of people joined the board just to discuss this "Punisher" thing  ; 2) more recently, some jerk-off newspaper reporter took a comment Paddy had made to us about possibly taking a break from acting after King of the Gypsies, and blew it up into a major "shocking announcement" story.  |
